Local Press Releaser Site Launch
July 27th, 2009At one time, a press release was written for journalists in the hope that they would pick up on your story and provide you with free publicity.
Nowadays, with The Internet, the cost of publication is negligible and so you can control your story yourself and leave journalists out of the picture. The tables have been turned!
I’m very excited today to be launching www.localpressreleaser.com. This site provides a service equivalent to your local paper but giving you control over your message. There is no cost to using this service at the moment and it gives you a voice in your local community. You can describe to your potential customers the products or services you have to offer.
The site makes use of the Google Maps API and RSS feeds to syndicate your press release. Anyone interested in a particular type of release – even journalists! – can subscribe to a particular feed. So your potential customers will be able to find your services in the location that they need them and in the area of their interest.
The site has been built with Drupal. There is a 57 second outline of Drupal below, in case you are interested:
Local Press Releaser makes use of groundbreaking technology but it is simple to use. It has been carefully designed with the small business owner in mind who has better things to do than spend time working out how to use a system. Post your press release today! And then post a different one tomorrow!
There are only two things to remember about writing press releases. Make your story interesting and keep it impartial:
You need to capture your potential client’s attention. But a press release is the place to build your credibility as well. It is not the place for hard sell tactics. Leave advertising to those with more money than sense who wish to buy their client’s over. The press release is a more subtle and honorable vehicle. You should use it frequently to discuss every aspect of your business honestly. But don’t be as dull as ditchwater in the process. Find an interesting angle. If you follow these guidelines, your local reader will be interested to learn of your professionalism in your area of expertise.
