LACAP has made the unusual step of publishing its therapist’s diaries to the public, which allows for a person wanting an initial consultation to book directly into available times.

Phil Rickwood is on the editorial team. He commented:

“This looks like a small step that follows IT trends. But there is more to it than that. What you have to understand is that the vast majority of both private and public psychological services are run on a core model of ‘what is frustration?’ which can and perhaps should be challenged. Why is psychotherapy in the UK run on a waiting list culture?”

“The idea is that if you apply for a psychotherapy you had better be serious about the commitment, and you had better have a good think about it. Most therapist’s will respond to an application by mailing out quite a lengthy protocol, and after wading through that ten page application you will still have to wait for a period of weeks before even a first meeting is arranged. Research shows that from application to commencing treatment can be a ten week process!”

Donald Kirkpatrick is the Clinical Manager at LACAP, and a senior psychoanalyst.

“The underlying idea, that a level of frustration ups the desire to do a thing, is not stupid. But the theory serves to screen out applicants who are uninformed or naïve about psychotherapy. It saves the organisation from confronting the higher treatment failure rates that are supposed to happen when less than ’standard’ patients are accepted into treatments.”

“LACAP has a different take. LACAP offers an immediate response, as we believe that this can relieve distress. We are concerned to broaden access to treatments, rather than restricting things. Why would it be a demoralising result to have found out that a candidate doesn’t want this kind of psychological service?”

New Technology Scores Big In Africa

Houston, Texas (May 29, 2009) ‐‐‐ National firm Hill Schwartz Spilker Keller LLC (HSSK) announced the successful utilization of Remloxtm, a patent pending forensic ESI collection tool, in Africa, Central America, Europe and the United States.

The use of Remlox allowed the firm to remotely acquire forensic images of hard drives located throughout Nigeria, Costa Rica, England and various locations in the United States. Before Remlox, such sector‐by‐sector forensic imaging required onsite collection by one of the firm’s computer forensics experts. HSSK distributed Remlox to several hundred custodians, avoiding the cost and logistical issues of on‐site imaging. Complete, encrypted forensic images were verified in HSSK’s Houston Computer Forensics lab, the nation’s first non‐governmental lab to be accredited by the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors/Laboratory Accreditation Board (ASCLD/LAB).

“By remotely acquiring forensic images, Remlox answers a great need in the industry.” said David Greetham, Computer Forensics practice director at HSSK. “Remlox now allows attorneys to forensically acquire ESI, without the usual high costs associated with traveling to different remote locations, while negating the risks associated with self collection.”

Remlox runs directly from a pre‐configured external USB drive that is sent to the custodian and requires no installation. It performs a tamper proof system audit of the acquired computer and has the option to forensically acquire the contents of RAM. Greetham added, “Using Remlox is quick and simple. On one occasion, we sent over 350 units to individual locations in two days and had the data back in our lab for verification within one week. On other occasions, we have utilized Remlox in locations that would simply be cost prohibitive to travel to.”

Remlox utilizes AES 256 bit encryption, to protect the integrity of the forensic images in transit.

Tonnino aids its community in time of need

Tonnino is a socially active responsible brand. It constantly supports its workmates, community and the country, and is always present in times of need. These past months, Tonnino has been of great help to the Costa Rican community, where the production plant is found.

Last December 2008, Costa Rica’s Caribbean province, Limon, was affected by floods, and thousands of inhabitants lost their belongings, homes, and even worse, their families. The floods affected this region for over 9 days, and over 6,500 people where living in 78 shelters. As soon as this incident was decreed a national emergency, Tonnino donated 2,000 boxes of tuna cans (worth $70,000) to the province’s most affected areas. The company tried to alleviate the needs of all those affected, and encouraged other companies to do so as well. Karla Alfaro, one of the company’s brand managers, was asked to offer a few encouraging words to the public. This was not the first time the company contributed to emergencies caused by natural disasters.

This past January 8, 2009, nature struck again the country, this time with a 6.2 earthquake, where mountains fell, streets collapsed, and hundreds of homes where destroyed. Several days after the disaster, bodies where still being found buried under shattered homes and dirt. The tragedy had such a magnitude, that the government and many private and public companies where brought together to contribute in different ways to the community. Tonnino donated a variety of 96,000 tuna cans, which represents 2,000 boxes of product (worth over $62,000). The company made 2 separate donations: the first 500 tuna boxes were given to Bor-Kar, a local company that volunteered to administer all donations since the first day after the earthquake. The other 1,500 boxes were given to the Presidential House organization, entity in charge of distributing all donations around the affected area.

When earthquakes, floods, or any other harmful incidents from nature affect the country, Tonnino shows solidarity by donating tuna products to the homeless and those with few or no income. Tonnino invites all other Costa Rican companies to unite for a good cause.
