A Greener, Safer World – KLH’S Legacy To Industries

April 24th, 2011

(Kuala Lumpur, 20/4/2011) – As most industries dealing with chemicals know, safety is of paramount importance and lately, being green has caught on with this sector as well. Helping their clients find a greener solution has always been within KLH’s, or Kong Long Huat’s, ambit. This long-time purveyor of chemicals in Malaysia helps industries such as the pulp and paper industry, the electronic electroplating industry and even their related industries such as waste water treatment industry, stay current on their latest green efforts.

Safety First

Safety remains a top priority with all industries, particularly those which deal with caustic soda and other chemicals on a daily basis. At KLH, they Responsive Care Programmes (RCP) are put in place to encourage and practice the effective management of such chemicals. This programme ensures minimum risk to KLH’s employees, customers, public and the environment by complying to legal requirements and internationally-recognised safety standards. In the event of emergencies, KLH also places procedures for handling chemicals and safe disposal of chemicals. However, no better cure is found than in prevention, and KLH continuously improves safety through hazard reduction techniques, education and the mandatory use of protective equipment. Regardless of the nature of acids and caustic sodas used, KLH is always on the scene to create a protective working environment.

Turning Pollution on its Head

For a long time, the paper and pulp industry had a high incidence of waste coming from their processes which incorporated caustic soda, bleaching agents and other chemicals. This caused industrialists the added costs of processing the waste water, which was toxic to the environment. KLH stepped-up to the plate by offering greener alternatives in the chemicals used, which then helped both the pulp and paper industry and the waste water treatment industry to be a safer, greener and less hazardous industry.

Meanwhile, the electronic electroplating industry relies heavily on chemicals, some even containing heavy metals, for their processes. Besides having a pre-designed electrode, they depended on KLH for the electrolyte, a chemical solution that enabled the process known as electrolysis to take place. Understandably, the waste water from this process would have to be treated with caution as it contained residues and contaminants. With KLH’s expertise, both the electric electroplating industry and their waste water treatment counterpart benefitted with a reduction in heavy metals and increase in greener procedures with the aid of the right electrolyte mix to their processes.

KLH’s contribution to the pulp and paper, electric electroplating and waste water management industries are not only impressive but practical as well.  However, being a large holding, KLH also serves customers from every industry that needs chemicals anywhere along its production chain, delivering safe, environmentally-friendly chemical solutions to the industrial sector of Malaysia.

Dynamic Growth Rate in Africa Reported by easyDNA

November 1st, 2009

easyDNA, a leading provider of DNA testing services, has reported a significant
increase in orders from Africa, and as a result has decided to continue its expansion within the continent.

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA 01/09/2009 – easyDNA, the prominent DNA testing company, has reported experiencing increasing numbers of orders from various parts of Africa, thus providing justification for their recent expansion into the Congo and Nigeria.

The firm already had an administrative office located in South Africa, and the decision to expand further into the continent was made after receiving a rapid rise in inquiries from other parts of Africa. Such inquiries ranged from the popular paternity DNA testing to advanced Forensic DNA testing, and many of the latter involved inquiries involving local authorities.

After operating from its initial African office in South Africa, the firm has opened administrative offices in Kenya, Nigeria, Congo, Botswana and Tanzania, and easyDNA now has plans to open more offices elsewhere in Africa within the next year or so, and so expand even further into the continent.

Said the company’s Sales and Marketing Director Andrew Alexander, “Up until fairly recently, clients all over Africa had to be serviced from our administrative office in Johannesburg, but because of an upsurge in inquiries we decided to add Congo and Nigeria to that.”

easyDNA now have 6 African offices and intend to increase that “. . . currently discussing opening more offices across Africa to offer the continent the same level of service currently provided to most other areas of the world.”

easyDNA offers DNA testing to the highest accuracy, including DNA Forensic Testing, DNA Relationship Testing and DNA Paternity Testing offered from sixteen administrative offices around the world. Our results are highly accurate, reliable and completely confidential and our laboratories have been accredited to the standards of ISO 17025 and AABB. Confirm Biosciences launches SteroidConfirm™

January 29th, 2009

San Diego, CA ( PRFriend ) January 28, 2009 –A new steroid test kit called SteroidConfirm™ can detect up to 17 different anabolic steroids, equipping parents and athlete coaches with a valuable new tool for combating steroid abuse. Developed by San Diego based Biotech Company Confirm BioSciences, the kit also includes a Medical Review Officer Report, where the parent has the opportunity to consult a Doctor regarding test results.

SteroidConfirm tests for 17 different types of performance-enhancing agents. Using Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometry, the urine-based product can accurately quantify substances well below regular cut-off levels. SteroidConfirm is designed specifically for consumer use, and includes a patented syringe within a sealable tube to minimize accidental spills or transport damage. This design provides ample volume of specimen for the laboratory and is less bulky than transport cups.

“The attractiveness to steroids by young adults is greater than illegal narcotics because of its short-term performance benefits,” said Mason Duchatscheck, founder and CEO of St. Louis-based TestMyTeen.com. “There are also more kids in club or school sports activities than there are using drugs, and the peer pressure for winning is tremendous. Parents are the socially acceptable excuse for kids, who can stay on the straight and narrow by telling their teammates that their mom and dad are testing them regularly for steroid use.”

The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) estimates that more than a half million 8th and 10th grade students are now using these dangerous drugs, and increasing numbers of high school seniors don’t believe steroids are risky. Another study indicated that 1,084,000 Americans, or 0.5 percent of the adult population, said that they had used anabolic steroids. These are just a couple of examples of how widespread the problem has become.

According to the Monitoring the Future Survey (MTF) released by the Department of Health and Human Services steroid abuse is especially among male 12th graders.

“We typically sell drug testing products to approximately 200 customers a day via our online store, said Jehad Awada, founder and CEO of Ohio-based Uritox Medical, LLC. “Steroid testing is becoming of even greater interest to parents and schools, given the wide media coverage of well-known and well-liked professional athletes, who are suspected of using performance-enhancing drugs.”

SteroidConfirm also provides a Medical Review Officer report and a Chain of Custody form for use by organizations who regularly test their employees or schools who screen their student athletes. Test results are available through a secure, online portal, with the information being 100 percent confidential; no personal information is required.

“Concerns about body image and athletic performance may be leading teens, as well as adult men and women, to use anabolic steroids, despite the serious side effects of these drugs.” said Zeynep Ilgaz, CEO of Confirm BioSciences. “Because people like the physical results they see when they use steroids, it can easily turn into steroid abuse. Often people begin to overlook the possible side effects of steroids and move from steroid use to steroid abuse.” She continued.

SteroidConfirm is available from Amazon and www.CVS.com other resellers listed at www.steroidconfirm.com . The kits costs $145.99 including lab fee, shipping, Report, MRO Review and MRO consulting.
