French Connection unveils Autumn Winter 09, Where Trends are obsolete and original design rules!

September 18th, 2009

Affirming French Connection’s status as a leading force in high street fashion, the brand has yet again upped their creative ante and collaborated with fashion icons and admired experts for the Autumn/Winter 09 campaign. Iconic photographer Terry Richardson has brought his energy and charisma with creative Director Fabien Baron to create a new campaign that is full of eclectic energy and 80’s glamour, presenting the brand in a credible, original and distinctive way. The brand has joined forces with The Richards sisters and DJ Tom Guiness. Models Theodora and Alexandra Richards, the glamorous daughters of the legendary rock icon, The Rolling Stones’ lead guitarist, Keith Richards and super model Patty Hanson, bring to the campaign their own unique style and personality – they can be termed the next generation rock fashionistas. Superstar DJ Tom Guinness who epitomizes style with his own genuine edge could not be more perfect for FCUK.

As ever with French Connection, expect the unexpected. Playing to our strengths, we’ve injected a casual diffusion range into the main collection, paying special attention to cut, fit, premium materials and our quirky little twists that make us that little bit different to everyone else. So here’s what to expect.

Key looks for women…

The casual diffusion line is a collection of everyday pieces that you have to have in your wardrobe, the pieces that matter every season. T-shirts take on a new form with oversized proportions adorned with abstract and playful prints, wear with oversized, love worn denim or check shirts, worn open with eclectic buttons. Special attention has been paid to denim with ultra skinny indigo to jet black to 80’s bleached stone wash jeans taking centre stage.

Monochromes, abstract and botanicals are key trends this season for dresses and tops with colour injections in bright red, orange and pink on bare shoulder dresses, smock tops and loose knitted vest dresses. Earth tones sit alongside bold tribal colours, clean vintage prints lay happily with oversized modern graphics with texture adding clever detail. It’s a well thought out love affair between tradition and modernist design.

Dresses have evolved in both sharp tailored fabrics and draped jersey with totally tropical prints. Necklines are square with shoulders given 80’s power woman presence. Unique vintage prints, traditional tailoring and embroidery create a flea market feel to casual dresses. Knitwear creates easy-to-wear versatile styles with geometric contrasting panels. The stand out piece styles this season is the ultra glamorous shift dress with all over dazzling embellishment.

Knitwear is updated with kitsch and vintage embellishment, detailing on collars and cuffs and faux fur trims. Owl and tiger prints give a playful nod to this year’s bicentenary of Charles Darwin’s birth, appearing cleverly across silks, t-shirts and shirts.

Accessories compliment the collection perfectly with luxurious statement pieces. The colonial theme carries through with multicoloured as well as muted khaki woven belts that define the waist. Bright floral and abstract prints featuring across shoulder bags and oversized clutches make the perfect statement along with patent leather all purpose shoulder bags.

Key looks for men…

Menswear takes inspiration from deeply masculine locales. The season starts off with a HORROR theme where colour, texture, and print work symbiotically to convey the move in to winter. The MOUNTAINEERING and TECHNO inspired collection is guaranteed to get you on the go. Tribal prints and graphic tees are the key highlights along with the comeback of FC72 logos. Checked and striped shirts and t-shirts in colourful hues of blue, yellow and orange are prominent this season.

French Connection enters the season with a very wearable nod to 1930’s workwear.  Soft Oxford blues are complimented by micro spots and stripes and removable collar detailing.  The mountaineering story provides technical down-filled removable linings, ropes and toggles, paired with fashionable gingham shirts and covetable knitwear – from funky fairisles to boiled wool with cable detailing.

French Connection Formal sees the use of key fabrics mohair and flannel, to provide tactile warm winter clothing.  Using a sophisticated palette focusing on dark browns and salt and pepper greys, the formalwear retains a seasonal debonair flair.  Dedicated formalwear shirting shys away from loud prints and returns to softer colours and textures

FCUK presents vibrant street sportswear with highlights of ‘pop’ colours.  Bold dark wash denim and a base monochrome palette are livened up with bright piping on baseball jackets and bold prints.  A Scooby Doo-esque take on horror introduces fun colours and graphics in a macabre way – from all over spider web prints to sophisticated tongue in cheek slogans. Bright colours prevail with hip-hop style retro track tops and alternative windbreakers with multi seams and jersey collars.

FC72 focuses on heavy detailing this season to liven up staples. Overdying, paint-splattering, crushed knits, and heavy stitching all lend to a distressed penitentiary feel. Bondage and a Thiller-esque vibe introduce tapered jeans with oversize zips, ripped denim, waxed marble jeans.  The season ends on a softer note, with brushed cottons and cosy bright chunky knits with fairisle detailing.  Flag logos, floral prints, tartan branding, and a puffa gillet all give an outdoorsy feel.

Accessories are understated and refined bags are the main talking point, with a set of chocolate brown raw-edge leather satchels and bags the ultimate statement investment.  On trend men update their look with timeless sophistication in striped or patterned silk ties.

Death of the bargain shoe

April 17th, 2009

This year, retailers have seen the bargain shoe slip back onto the shelf, while women opt for the more tasteful, less ‘sole-destroying’ footwear to keep their feet in tip top condition.

While this option may seem the least cost effective, women are realising that they are spending more on cheap shoes that don’t last a rainy day, and in the long term, buying reliable pricier shoes, works out cheaper.

About.com, through a number of polls has found that women are looking for comfort and style when searching for the perfect shoe.

A recent poll found that 19 per cent of women looked for comfort when buying new shoes and only 5 per cent looked at the actual cost of the shoe.

Yet in this current recession, many women don’t have much choice other than to save the pennies for the latest Jimmy Choo’s or splash the cash on cheap bargain pairs, were the sole falls out at the end of the day or the heel snaps off.

However, help is at hand with the aid of FMFootware, an online shoe company offering the latest designer shoe brands at fantastic prices.

FMFootware have been online since 2006, and stock a range of shoe designers, including, Firetrap, FLY London, Replay and H by Hudson.

With the wedge making a spring 2009 comeback, FM Footwear have stocked up on a selection of the shoes for you to browse and purchase at your leisure.

EMU Australia has launched a new collection in a variation of shades including black, white and light brown.

Lyle and Scott Vintage

February 9th, 2009

Whenwewerecasuals has made 70% off on the Lyle and Scott Brands on the summer Stock. They are in the business of selling the branded clothing look and feel good wearing the own signature, and at the same time.

New season gear is arriving thick and fast and one of your all time firm favorites is here. As the mighty band Saxon once sang back in the 80’s http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=u6OLEPaIMhA ……The Eagle Has Landed.

What an intro for Lyle and Scott!!!! Possibly the best we have ever done for a brand. A theme tune announcing their arrival and everything. Check out the super splendid new season colours Click Here and as the chill of winter slowly disappears, get involved in the rather fetching bright colours that are going to get you in the mood for spending whole afternoons in beer gardens up and down the land.

Secondly, what are you using to hold up your trousers these days??? We are willing to wager it is either a brown or black leather belt that serves a purpose of function rather than fashion. Of course there is absolutely nothing wrong with that as generation after generation of the world’s population have chosen to do things this way. However, if you fancy breaking away from the masses then look no further then here Click Here. We have just received a delivery of the finest Italian belts from Anderson’s, a company that have over 40 years of know how in their field. We promise you, once you are the proud owner of one of these you will never want to go down the usual route of preventing your trousers falling down round your ankles.

Finally, the sale is up to 70% now. Yes, you heard us right……we got a stockroom to clear and because of that, it means you end up with a right result. Doesn’t dilly dally if you have been holding out for this moment as once folk hear about this; we are sensing a big rush to www.whenwewerecasuals.com

Indigo Rose New Collection Launch

January 20th, 2009

Indigo Rose is a collection which heralds the arrival of Spring to the British shores. It launches a range of more casual occassionwear which enables you to plan for future events with a new set of clothes to wear.

The collection has been inspired by the seaside. However don’t think kiss me quick hats, it is more Brighton beach than Blackpool with a nod towards rural beaches, sand dunes and beach huts. It is also a collection that would look great in one of the fabulous tea rooms you find in seaside towns or even in the more provincial university towns of Oxford and Cambridge.

The tones are mainly blue and white with a peony pink added to give the outfits a shot of colour to drag them out of the bland. There are floral prints which are strongly influences by the toile de jouy style but for those of use less keen on flowery styles there are spots and stripes which keep the beachy theme.

The styles are pretty and feminine – reinforcing the Britishness of the collection – the ribbon and lace details evoke memories of high tea, cucumber sandwiches and scones with cream and jam.

Rive Gauche

December 18th, 2008

When you think of Paris you always think of those sophisticated women who exude chic styling in an effortless way. Now is your chance to dress in a Parisian style with East’s new collection Rive Gauche.

The collection is full of fun stylish clothes with a sophisticated Parisian edge. The collection is based around a selection of greys which is a great colour for anyone to wear. The grey is mixed with black and cream to add to the monochromic chic and highlighted with red and lilac to add a little spice.

As well as the solid colours there are also some patterns added to the range. Again the theme is chic. Dresses and skirts are structured and more fitted than some of East’s usual styles – but are still pretty with floral prints that vary from classic daisy prints to the more classy rose.

To complement the plainer items there are also spots and stripes which add an air of elegance to any outfit. There are more relaxed options too – the key to the look is to accessorize with frills and bows.

As with all of East’s collections there is a range of accessories that finish off any outfit perfectly.

Plantation House

December 18th, 2008

December sees a new collection launched by East which will be one of the most popular ever. Called Plantation House it takes its inspiration from Indonesia and Malaysia.

The result is a range of clothes that use traditional fabrics and colours along with ethnic detailing to inspire a relaxed and yet formal style of dressing

The clothes come in a range of classic colours, think dark bitter chocolate with tones of cinnamon and nutmeg then highlighted with vibrant jade and smooth pagoda greens.  The result is a stylish collection with exotic overtones.

Patterns are also inspired by South East Asia using batik resist printing to develop an individual garment at each turn.  Anokhi, have worked with East of this collection developing some wonderful block prints for the pieces.  The great thing about these clothes is because they are hand block printed each one is different – buying one of these pieces is buying a piece made from handcrafted fabric – each print is unique in some way which is part of the distinctive offer that East have on the High Street.

The overall silhouette is relaxed but constructed.  Easy waterfall cardigans and coats are key, as are layering pieces strongly influenced by Indonesian styling such as longer line tunics and coats – in fact it is a classic East collection that will be something everyone can appreciate and wear.

This range will shortly be launching at www.east.co.uk/c/clothing_shop%20by%20range.htm
