Speaking – Characteristics of a Good Speaker

February 11th, 2010

Speaking in front of an audience is a skill and one that everyone should have learned in college. Being able to communicate and express yourself to many people is essential in every aspect of life, no matter the type of work you do. A good speaker does not necessarily have to have a good and loud voice; and although that’s an advantage, without the right characteristics, unfortunately, an impressive loud voice isn’t enough to keep people listening. If you intend to become a speaker that’s not only engaging but impressive, build the right characteristics in yourself and watch people awe while you’re speaking.

Confident and Funny

Stepping onto a stage, shy and uncertain of yourself, results in an audience that is also unsure of you and your ability to entertain them for what, the next 30 minutes? Any audience wants someone speaking to them to be convincing and the only way you can be convincing is to show you’re confident about yourself and about what you’re saying. Don’t fidget around with your hands, hair or any equipment on the speaker’s table (pens, papers and microphone). Add audience bonuses if you throw in a few funny punch lines out of the blue. This makes the audience feel a little more comfortable with you, as well as gives you time to think and pace out as they laugh. Don’t be too serious. Keep a light mood during speaking so you won’t feel nervous.

Organized and Responsible

No speaker should come to an event without being prepared – unless you’re really, really, really good (or just destined to fail?). Speaking requires a lot of energy, planning and research, especially if you’re not as familiar with the subject. Learn why your audience is there listening to your speech, know their wants and goals. Be responsible enough to research on important things that will help make your speaking a success. Avoid being late to events as this ensures major negative points to you as a speaker – everyone will be hating you already as soon as you step onto the stage.

Determined and full of passion

To make an effect on your audience while speaking, you have to be determined to make your point. Use various methods to pass your message onto your audience and use passion to get them hooked. Be convincing with your passion for the subject and earn respect for your dedication.

Speaking is a skill that everyone can learn with much practice and sufficient dedication.

Place Orders Up to 12 Months in Advance of Delivery at WholeBlossoms

February 2nd, 2010

Austin, TX , 02 February 2010 : National wholesale flower supplier, WholeBlossoms, is taking 12-month advance orders so clients can book their orders in advance for convenience and price lock-in. The online store is receiving encouraging responses for its advance order service as more and more orders are being placed many months well in advance of delivery.

We know that it’s never too soon to place an order for special occasion. Whether it’s flowers for a wedding or birthday many months from now, orders can be placed today. As a result, the customer achieves peace of mind knowing that their order is locked in at today’s prices and that another item off their checklist is completed, which is one less item to worry about. Also, there might be a future flower shortage for a flower our customer has ordered due to market demand or foul weather. If the customer has their order placed already, however, then the flower farm will have reserved their flowers so they are not impacted by any market gaps. We therefore recommend our customers place their orders as soon as they know which flowers they need. And we can certainly make adjustments to orders later provided ample time is provided prior to delivery. So there will be that opportunity in case our customer is concerned with locking down a final order without chance for a change. WholeBlossoms is receiving positive responses from its customers as the number of advanced orders have grown increasingly with each passing day,” says Nicole Morgan, Senior Marketing Consultant for WholeBlossoms.

The flower wholesaler offers over 1,500 varieties of flowers on its online store though many more flowers are available at different times of the year. Some of WholeBlossoms offerings include large White Calla Lilies, Gerbera Daisies, Roses, Hydrangeas, Greens and Filler, supplies, and more.

Online cut flower wholesalers today take orders from both consumers and businesses, and also provide access to many flowers on their websites. A flowers wholesale store works with many farms worldwide to import fresh cut flowers for its buyers, then distributes product to its customers. All types of flowers in various lengths and colors are sold. In case you are not able to find the flower of your choice on a wholesaler’s site, you can contact the store staff via phone or email.

About WholeBlossoms

WholeBlossoms strives to provide only the most fresh, premium cut flowers for wedding, birthdays, corporate events, and more. All flowers are vigorously checked for quality prior to packing. Because WholeBlossoms offers a 100% freshness guarantee on all its flowers, WholeBlossoms will either replace the product or provide a refund.

Innovations Spotlights: InfoCom says e-health solutions go beyond basic assistance.

November 25th, 2009

Stuttgart, Germany – According to InfoCom latest release, mobile carriers are the most active players in the provision of e-health solutions. This market is indeed led by Orange, Movistar and Vodafone, as the most innovative players in introducing new solutions that go beyond basic health assistance. The French mobile carrier Orange, for instance, has its own healthcare division, which facilitates solutions for hospitals, physicians as well as patients; while Movistar is very active in Spain in introducing such applications, which can be combined with its mobile services. Vodafone as well has introduced a wide range of offers in several countries, ranging from service hotlines to devices measuring blood glucose levels for diabetes patients.

E-health solutions are mostly offered on a domestic scale as majority of these applications are provided in partnership with domestic health associations, for instance in Portugal with the local Ministry of Health, in Spain with the country Spanish unit of the Red Cross. Only Vodafone has started to introduce a diabetes measuring device both in Spain and in the UK.

At the moment, carriers’ business models focus on stand-alone services with monthly subscription ranging from €1.90 with NTT Japan’s Online portal for healthcare management, to €59 with Orange France’s GPS wristband for Alzheimer patients. In some cases, e-health services are offered as add-ons to current mobile services, for instance available as downloads for the mobile device and charged though an activation fee.

While senior citizens, together with handicapped and people with chronic diseases, are the main target segments of e-Health solutions addressing the private market, B2B e-health applications increasingly address public institutions, such as government entities and health agencies as well as hospitals and physicians.

This Innovations Spotlights by InfoCom also includes:

InfoCom says mobile and broadband main drivers of Brazilian market until 2014

September 24th, 2009

Stuttgart, Germany – Telecom spending in Brazil amounted to €31.2bn in 2008, equivalent to about 3% of the country’s GDP, and it is expected to rise to €35.6bn in 2014 at a CAAGR (compounded annual average growth rate) of 2.2%. Revenues from fixed telephony will continue to decrease despite fixed telephony carriers’ efforts to attract customers by decreasing service pricing and increasing geographical coverage.

Mobile telephony will remain the main driver of the telecom sector. The growth in subscription will offset the decline in prices. Indeed, if ARPU (average revenue per user) is expected to decrease from currently €9.00 to €8.40 in 2014, the total subscriptions will increase to 185.9 millions by 2014, representing a penetration rate per inhabitant of nearly 90%. Growth opportunities will likely come from the prepaid market, particularly the low-income users and SME segment, and from Region I, where mobile penetration is still relatively low. Non-voice services should gain some momentum as soon as 3G based mobile broadband services become more geographically available. Furthermore, the launch of 4G (LTE) technologies in the first part of the next decade should further boost mobile broadband by allowing faster and enhanced mobile data services.

Brazilian telecom market trends reported by InfoCom also include:

– Broadband penetration continues to increase as at end-2008, over 17% of all Brazilian households had broadband Internet access, up from about 10% in 2006. xDSL is the leading broadband technology while 2.5 million are cable modem subscribers: Embratel’s subsidiary Net Serviços (formerly Globo Cabo) controlls more than 90% of the cable modem segment with 2.2 million subscriptions.

– Brazil is one of the fast-developing economies in the world along with China, India and Russia. Coupled with its large population and ongoing industrialisation, Brazil is expected to become one of the leading countries in agriculture, manufacturing, mining, service and telecommunication sectors.

DJS Research Ltd to Submit another Research Report to Number 10 Downing Street

September 21st, 2009

UK market research agency DJS Research Ltd has recently completed another wave of research for the Jeanette Crizzle Trust, which is due to be presented to Number 10 Downing Street in September 2009.

For the last two years DJS Research has been evaluating a Government education programme called “Give and Let Live”.

An initial national survey was conducted by DJS Research in 2007, with the general public to ascertain awareness levels of blood, organ, bone marrow and tissue donation. The survey was considered when the House of Lords made their decision that there was not a convincing case to support the introduction of presumed consent i.e. the Governments plan to make everyone a potential organ donor unless they actively ‘opt-out’.

The education programme was then launched in September 2007 and is aimed at increasing awareness of bone marrow, blood and organ donation amongst 14-16 year old pupils. It is being offered to state and independent secondary schools across the UK and is recommended for use within PSHE, Citizenship, Science and ICT. The resource itself comprises a teacher’s pack and a website, and includes lesson plans, activity sheets, real life stories, debating topics, games, films and other activities.

The 2008 research consisted of a series of telephone interviews with teachers responsible for PSHE. Close to a quarter (23%) of teachers were aware of the Give And Let Live resource but the majority were not (77%). When asked about the likelihood of using Give And Let Live in the future, the vast majority of schools (76%) said that they are likely to use it. The full findings complied by DJS Research were hand delivered to No 10 Downing Street by Kettering MP Philip Hollobone.

Further information and the latest wave of research findings will be made publicly available on: http://www.djsresearch.com during September 2009, after submission of the report to Government.

About DJS Research Ltd

DJS Research Ltd is a UK full service market research agency. The company conducts both qualitative and quantitative research projects within both the consumer and B2B markets.

The agency is led by five senior Research Directors who carry out all elements of the research process from start to finish – project design, implementation, management, analysis and reporting. Research services are broad ranging and include face to face interviewing, online research, desk research, questionnaire or topic guide design, depth interviews, group discussions and telephone interviews.

Unified Communications: the market will experience strong growth

September 2nd, 2009

Stuttgart, Germany – According to InfoCom, the Unified Communications (UC) market will experience a very strong growth reaching a value of €2.7bn worldwide by 2013, with the US market growing over 30%. Western Europe will represent some 34% of the World market while the US alone will represent a 37% share.

The main market drivers relate to improving productivity and cost savings, in particular as increasing globalisation and mobility means employees are less and less likely to work always in their office. InfoCom expects also increasing average prices per user as the systems’ complexity is due to increase significantly, as more and more functionalities will be added in the Unified Communications concept, for instance integration of fixed and mobile communications, video and web conferencing, collaboration tools etc. Apart from productivity and cost savings, relevant drivers are also improved customer satisfaction and improved cooperation with remote offices (and thus improved mobility). InfoCom’s Chief Research Analyst stated: “In a world without Unified Communications, communication is organised and segmented like in containers and users have to switch between applications and devices depending on the communication channel they want or need to use”.

Major UC providers are forcefully driving this business, especially PBX vendors, software vendors and system integrators, whether more focussed on PBX/telecom, on IT or both. PBX vendors offer solutions that combine hardware and software, whereby software has steadily grown in importance over the last years. System integrators’ and software vendors’ strategy – especially IBM and Microsoft – is very similar: leverage their strength with e-mail/messaging servers and clients to expand on UC, by integrating with existing PBX but also by taking share away from traditional PBX vendors.

As of network operators, those who push Unified Communications, clearly position themselves as system integrators, offering advise and design, supply of hardware and software (from PBX and software vendors), support for the system integration, and also offering to develop extra software and customisation if necessary. Of course, carriers’ advantage is the fact that they can provide “everywhere connectivity” or else Centrex or managed PBX and other managed services. In other words carriers leverage their network expertise developing network-based UC solutions while complementing PBX and software vendors UC solutions with network based value added services, in particular providing everywhere network connectivity. About this research: This research highlights the different UC solutions, with drivers and main benefits, the providers and their offers, with strategies and the different business models; and the market shares in the UC market by geographical region. The research includes a market model, which estimates revenues from hardware equipment (PCs, servers, telephones, fax machines etc.) as well as revenues from services (consulting, design, installation, management, maintenance etc.) with forecasts until 2013. About InfoCom: InfoCom is a market research and consultancy company with over 20 years experience providing strategic analyses and planning assistance to stakeholders in the telecommunications, IT and multimedia industries. InfoCom’s independent and fact-based analyses highlight trends and opportunities, supporting decision makers to understand market dynamics in order to improve their competitive advantage. ###

The most aggressive adopters of ERP SMEs

August 2nd, 2009

Changing Indian ERP scenario

IN recent times, the ERP scenario in India is witnessing a rapid growth. A number of manufacturing firms, automotive, steel, oil, textile and pharmaceutical companies have already been implemented ERP solution thus making ERP dominating the overall picture in these organizations.

For the early adopters of ERP solution, Finance and Accounting, Sales and Distribution, Materials Management/Purchase, and Manufacturing are the most popular ERP modules implemented. In recent times Plant Maintenance, HR, Transportation and Service modules are also growing in popularity.

We find different industrial sectors like cement sector, power sector, and food sector are going for ERP solutions. The construction or project companies have also implemented different ERP solutions suitable to their needs.

Currently, the SME segment in India has been one of the most aggressive adopters of ERP software. In fact almost 60 per cent companies in the SME segment have already implemented ERP. This substantial increase in the penetration level in the SME segment is attributed to the introduction of low cost ERP solutions such as eresource ERP which also caters the country-specific localizations and availability of large pool of skilled functional and technical talents.

The primal objectives that the SMEs have for switching to ERP is to get aid in smooth inventory management, timely scheduling of production cycles and shipment of goods, managing human resources and online data communication.

According to estimates, the ERP market in India has witnessed a growth rate of 70 per cent in the last decade. As a result, the market has leapfrogged over the years to a tremendous volume in terms of monetary gains. There were many reports which underlined the tangible quantitative benefits accrued by Indian companies in post-ERP implementation era.

Most of the time these benefits are difficult to prove on statistical grounds as soft benefits like comfort in work life, maturity in planning, attitude changes, transparency, visibility etc are either practically impossible to measure or correlate such improvements to ERP implementation. Companies are supposed to set their objectives prior to implementation followed by measuring of the achievements after implementation, and only then should they conclude about the effects of ERP.

Martec Europe Ltd – Car sales training tip

July 7th, 2009

On a daily basis working in the Martec Europe office, I get articles and stories from colleagues which they found interesting and want to share.  This week Neil Pursell, one of our Directors sent me Orr’s Law.  This article is based on a theory that within everyone of us there are two people, a thinker and a prover.

It suggests that the thinker part of us thinks up ideas, whilst the prover collects facts that support these ideas.

This got me thinking, if you think of something or have an idea of something then it’s most likely to come true.

An example of this for me and my colleagues would be in car sales training.  If we went to a car dealership to train the sales people how to sell more cars or to use one of our systems and when we arrived believed they couldn’t do it, then that would most likely come true.  On the other hand, when we go there believing sales people can learn anything we show them, then that’s what happens.

This article caught my attention because it would be useful in our sales coaching programme and so I sent it around the office to see what everyone else thought.

Here are a couple of the stories that came back to me…

“My mum used to annoy me (as mums do) when going to a multi storey car park, she would only go to the first floor and she would always say “there will be a space, there will be a space”, totally convinced, and, within one lap, there was, every single time without fail.”  How lucky is she?

“When I play Golf I always struggle with my pitching around the greens, for some reason I don’t have soft hands!

Every time I approach a chip, just before I hit the ball, whilst my arms are in the arch, my hands flick into non chipping mode, It must be because my sub conscious is saying ‘you can’t chip’”

Interesting isn’t it?

Try it out and let me know how you got on!

Mobile market in China: InfoCom says China Telecom’s entry and new 3G licenses will drive growth

June 30th, 2009

Stuttgart, Germany — According to one of InfoCom’s latest research, recent developments in China are expected to change the landscape of the mobile market as a new main player emerged and 3G licenses were issued. “The wide industry restructuring, which took place in 2008 and in 2009 is due to change the market landscape”, an analyst at InfoCom stated. The Chinese market has seen a number of restructurings, among which in 1Q08 China Unicom’s acquisition of China MII mobile operations in the South Western province of Guizhou. In 4Q08, another industry restructuring merged China Unicom with fixed line operator China Netcom. As a consequence, China Unicom sold its CDMA business to China Telecom. Through this reshuffle, China Telecom became the third largest player in the market. “Since CDMA subscribers comprised about 25% of China Unicom’s mobile subscriber base and thus roughly 7% of the total mobile subscribers in China, China Unicom’s market share decreased significantly although it will still remain the second largest operator in China based on subscribers” the InfoCom’s analyst in Manila commented.

In January 2009, the regulator finally awarded 3G licences to the three main operators after a long delay caused by the will of pushing a home-grown version of the 3G technology TD-SCDMA. China Mobile was awarded a 3G license based on TD-SCDMA, while China Unicom received W-CDMA and China Telecom CDMA2000. The regulator expects the three operators to invest a total of 45 billion euros on 3G networks for the next three years.

China Telecom started 3G trials in Shanghai in mid-March 2009 and roll-out of commercial services was supposed to start in April 2009. The entry of China Telecom should drive subscriber development and should spur existing mobile operators (China Mobile and China Unicom) to employ growth strategies to keep their market position. Overall the launch of 3G networks is expected to encourage the use of mobile data services.

Abaris Group announces conclusion of six-month consulting project

January 17th, 2008

Walnut Creek, CA Contact: Mike Williams, 925-933-0911

The Abaris Group, a California-based emergency medical services and hospital consulting firm, has announced the conclusion of a six-month consulting project assisting the County of Sacramento with a trauma designation RFP process. The Abaris Group’s analysis and advice helped the Board of Supervisors make their final determination as to which of two south-county hospitals should be granted level II trauma center status.

The County of Sacramento issued a request for proposal (RFP) for a level II trauma center in the south county in October 2006. Kaiser Foundation Hospital – South Sacramento and Methodist Hospital of Sacramento (a Catholic Healthcare West facility) submitted proposals to the County in hopes of being awarded this important designation. Following an analysis of the two proposals by an outside team of national trauma experts, Sacramento County Health and Human Services Director Lynn Frank recommended to the Board that Kaiser be awarded this designation. Methodist refuted the decision.

Amid the protest and campaigning that followed Frank’s recommendation, the County hired The Abaris Group to review both proposals and evaluate Methodist’s protest/appeal regarding this RFP process. The Abaris Group was hired to assist the County because of its extensive experience with trauma centers and RFP processes. The Abaris Group carefully analyzed each argument presented in Methodist’s protest to the Kaiser recommendation and evaluated numerous documents relevant to the appeal to determine the validity of the protest.

The Abaris Group concluded that the RFP review process was in fact thorough and complete, and due to differences in each proposal Kaiser did appear to be the appropriate nomination to receive trauma center designation. Additionally, The Abaris Group conducted an extensive review of each proposal, paying particular attention to capital commitments promised by each facility. After projecting demand for trauma and other hospital services into the near future, The Abaris Group was able to determine whether the proposed capacity would meet, exceed, or fall short of future needs.

Reports of these analyses were provided to the County of Sacramento Board of Supervisors for their consideration in determining which hospital should receive the designation. In the end, the Board of Supervisors followed The Abaris Group’s advice and Director Frank’s recommendation, voting 3-2 in favor of awarding the trauma center designation to Kaiser. “We couldn’t have done this without The Abaris Group” said Lynn Frank, Director, Sacramento County Health and Human Services. “Their knowledge helped inform the Board so that we were able to get the votes necessary to designate Kaiser as the next level II trauma center in Sacramento County.” For further information, contact Mike Williams, 925-933-0911.
