Bird Bowl and Latin Touch Catering Do Super Bowl Sunday Right!

February 22nd, 2011

Feb 18, 2011 – The lanes began to fill early Sunday afternoon and stayed that way throughout the big game, with over 100 reservations coming within an hour of kickoff. To go along with Miami’s best deal on bowling, patrons were greeted with a delicious whole pig roast prepared in a La Caja Asadora Caja China style Roasting Box by Latin Touch Catering. Samples of “pan con lechon” were brought to the lanes for all to enjoy, with full plates being served once the game was underway. The event was a follow-up to the sold-out New Year’s Eve bash held just over a month prior.

About the event, Latin Touch president Mat Masters said, “This is why I love what I do. To be able to put smiles on hundreds of faces while enjoying great company and a great game, that’s what it’s all about. Jerry (Bird Bowl GM Jerry Mugar) has a great thing going here. To see this place packed every time we sponsor an event is a testament to the job he’s doing here.”

Masters personally worked the event, bringing the pig out to be displayed before beginning the carving into delicious bite-sized samples of pan con lechon that were delivered to the patrons as they bowled. Located in Westchester, which has one of the country’s most densely Cuban populations, the caja china concept is not unfamiliar to many of those who were in attendance.

The caja china style whole pig roast is a staple of many Hispanic and Caribbean peoples, and has been a big part of Miami’s unique culture for generations. Maria Lopez explained it this way, “Ever since I was a little girl we did a pork roast for Christmas Eve and New Years, so to see one here really brought me back to that and all the great memories I have. And the pork was absolutely delicious.”

Food Preparation Surfaces for Hygiene Safety Standards in Catering Industry with Teknomek

July 20th, 2010

Over recent years, there have been vast improvements in hygiene standards within the catering industry; however this is no cause for complacency. One often overlooked area in the catering industry is that of food preparation surfaces. Although cleaned and disinfected, wear and tear inevitably leaves many surfaces worn and scratched and therefore vulnerable to bacterial harbouring.

There are two main types of food poisoning, infectious agents and toxic agents. The vast majority of reported cases stem from infectious agents which take the form of harmful bacteria or microbes that become attached to food and subsequently infect the body. The vast majority of these instances can be traced to poor hygiene standards.

Stainless steel is probably the most common material used in food preparation environments. For the chemically minded, stainless steel is an iron based alloy which contains a minimum of 10.5 percent chromium and a maximum of 1.2 percent carbon. The chromium content provides a protective layer of chromium oxide on the surface, also known as the passive film or layer. However, to be suitable for use in food preparation areas, a minimum chromium content of 18 percent is recommended.

All grades of stainless steel will stain and discolour due to surface deposits and can never be accepted as completely maintenance free. To achieve maximum corrosion resistance, the surface of the stainless steel must be kept clean. Provided the cleaning schedules are carried out on a regular basis, good performance and long service life are assured. Stainless steel equipment is easier to clean than other materials such as polymers and aluminium, and has comparable hygienic qualities to glass.

Teknomek is Europe’s leading manufacturer of catering stainless steel furniture and equipment, providing high quality and cost-effective stainless steel solutions to industry hygiene requirements. To view Teknomek products and for more information, visit www.teknomek.co.uk.

A Pleasant And Fulfilling Experience

April 29th, 2010

Today, shopping is proving to be an extremely pleasant experience when going online and taking your time to browse through ‘fields’ of your chosen commodity.  The primary goal of any website or blog should be to provide its visitors with a pleasant and fulfilling experience, and the opinions of users will play a huge role in determining the site’s level of success.

If a provider is setting out its ‘stall’ with everything a visitor to their website needs, they will come back again and again, and more importantly, the customer will just log on straight away to the site and not bother to browse for an alternative.

High speed internet connections are becoming more and more common, but even with high speed connections, some pages don’t load very quickly, and users will get impatient and exit out before viewing whatever it is you offer.  If a potential customer can’t use or access your website, it serves no purpose for that visitor. A user should be able to move through the website to find what they want. After all, visitors are coming to your site for a reason, and the information that your website provides needs to sufficiently meet the expectations of visitors.

If you are in the market for catering equipment and commercial refrigeration, then you will have no problem with the website of Ward’s Catering, specialist suppliers of catering equipment. It is so user-friendly and explicit in terms of description of the catering equipment and commercial refrigeration on offer, their corresponding prices, their special offerings, and the capabilities of each article of equipment.

Shopping online is now becoming the ‘norm’ and will get more and more sophisticated as technology goes from strength to strength. It makes sense, and a much better option than trudging around a store searching for what you want and obtaining very little information other than the price. Whereas if you go online to a provider such as Wards Catering, you will see every imaginable item of catering equipment and commercial refrigeration stocked. Not only that, you will also be able to read all about the item, how it works, its capacity, the controls and a whole lot more detailed information.

Ward’s of York has been in business for nearly 40 years and has the experience to advise anyone in the catering industry about the best buys for their particular needs.  They have an enviable reputation in the business. And with an excellent trading relationship with leading manufacturers such as Blue Seal, Caravell, Hobart, Lincat, Parry, Robot Coupe, True Viscount and many more, it allows them to offer and pass onto the customer highly competitive discounts on commercial catering and refrigeration equipment. A very important point to remember is that nearly all their products are available for immediate delivery and at the very best prices.

Head and shoulders above their competitors, Wards Catering is a ‘one-stop’ shop in terms of everything required for the catering industry. So go online to this user friendly website and make this ‘shopping trip’ a pleasant and fulfilling experience – choosing at your leisure, with no fuss or hassle and being at the top of your game with the best catering equipment and commercial refrigeration on the market.

March 2nd, 2010

Choosing the Right Caterer for your Corporate Event

January 25th, 2010

To get the perfect Corporate Event or come reasonably close to it you have to do business with the right people. But since no one can get enough “practice” at picking party caterers, how do you know the good ones when you see them?

  1. Testimonials and complaints are both equally revealing if you can read them right. When you read a testimonial, always do so with a checklist of items in mind. A review commenting on the excellent quality of food and cutlery, for instance, tells you nothing about the quality of service. Reading CAREFULLY can make all the difference.
  1. Try out the standard of their food during food tasting. This is a great opportunity to know the standard of a catering company. During food tasting, you should share with your caterer your likes and dislikes so that he or she will know what food to recommend to you. Do not be afraid to ask question. You are the customer, and you should ask anything that you have in doubt before booking.
  1. Presentation: Speak to the caterer’s chef and/or representative. How involved are they with their food? Do they help you plan the menu with love and devotion, or do they simply tell you they can do anything? Always look for caterers who understand menu planning, and can speak eloquently about dishes and their combinations. This is a good time to find out more about their plate presentation. Is dressing served on the side? And will the courses be delivered in succession or at once? These are some of the questions that you should ask your caterer before booking.
  1. Compare quotes: You do not know if you are being overcharged until you compare. Getting quotes from different places will help you get the best deal, as long as you choose from places with better similar quality. Also, find out which caterers offer the most services for a definite sum of money.
  2. Past experience: Most people tend to remember the best events they have ever attended. If you want to plan in the long term, ask caterers for their cards at these memorable events – you will probably avail of their services later on. Do share your honest opinion and feedback with your caterer. Caterers see tasting as an opportunity to improve the standard of their food and presentation. Therefore, be sure to share comments and questions and give them your honest feedback. This will help them to improve so that they can serve you better in the future.
  1. Be sure to find out whether the caterer charges for tasting. Some caterers do charge for tasting. So be sure to understand the charges and procedure before you arrange a food tasting session with your caterer.
  1. The proverbial grapevine: Last but not least, rely on the recommendations of processional friends. Even if you can’t remember the caterers who served up that lovely foie gras, your processional friends just might have saved up their business cards.

The caterer is largely responsible for an event’s success or failure. Many corporate catering deals come as part of a package that includes performances, perhaps hall bookings, flowers and decoration, power supply, equipment rentals and such services. For your event to be successful, ALL these services must be up to the mark. Alternatively, you could choose entertainers, florists and equipment suppliers individually – a task which is more time consuming, and may leave you spending more than you bargained for. While an experienced event planner will provide you the best in all these services, a package deal with a caterer can be a much more affordable way to have a memorable Corporate Event.

Spray and Wipe Disinfectants

December 19th, 2009

Traditional sponges and paper towels used for various cleaning purposes are now being replaced by spray and wipe disinfectants. They are found to be convenient and easy methods for killing germs present on various surfaces.

Wipe Disinfectants – A Convenient and Easy Means of Disinfection

Everyone who is busy with work at home or somewhere outside always looks for a convenient means of cleaning. Due to the increasing concerns about hygiene and convenience, people generally prefer wipe disinfectants to chemical disinfectants.

In the present commercial market, you can find various brands of pre-moistened wipes. These products, specially designed to kill germs, are effective against a number of microorganisms including human Hepatitis B virus. Certain brands guarantee 99.99% germ killing properties. They will not leave scratches or streaks when used on surfaces for disinfection and cleaning purposes.

Bring Fresh and Long Lasting Fragrance in Your Rooms with Disinfectant Sprays

Accumulation of dirt generates germs and results in creating bad smell in the surroundings. Pet hair, trapped food particles or smoke would be the reason for this. At times, even if the dirt is removed, the odor persists in the room. In such situations, you can apply spray disinfectants on the surfaces from where the smell originates. They neutralize the odor and leave a fresh and long lasting fragrance. These sprayers can not only bring sweet smell into your rooms but also kill germs and odor causing bacteria. Most of them can be used on hard and non porous surfaces.

Purchase Brand Name Products from Quality Dealers

Nice Pak, Dial, and Reckitt Benckiser are today’s popular brands of spray and wipe disinfectants. Many of the dealers even offer facilities for providing online quotes for the convenience of their customers. Just browse the internet to find the dealer who meets your requirements.

Catering Ideas for Corporate Events

November 11th, 2009

If you are plain any event for your office, the best thing to do is plan early and chooses a caterer with a few ideas in hand. Although many caterers have ready-to-go menus, most of them will work with you to ensure the food at the conference is a success. The type of food and the amount of help you will depend on the amount of people at the conference and whether the food is needed for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Corporate Catering Menu Ideas

A catering menu depends largely on the type of event you are holding. Different catering menus are appropriate for different times of the day and should be adapted to the formality of the event. Here are some ideas for catering menus.

Catering Breakfast Ideas

Breakfast can be a number of stuff in more verities. A variety of cereals in attractive dispensers with fresh, cold milk should be a staple. Trays of fresh, seasonal fruit are always well received. Scones, rolls, biscuits and toast should be served with an array of jellies and jams to top them. You can serve yogurt with a variety of toppings such as granola and dried fruits.

Your Breakfast will appear beautifully arranged in wicker baskets and platters.  We can deliver on-site for your expediency and arrange to have all materials picked up at the end of your event. Make certain plenty of servers are present to refill coffee mugs on the floor. A banquet spread of fruits, juices, bagels, toast, muffins, butters and jams is a popular idea for these types of conferences. It is unlikely that businesspeople will want full main courses early in the morning.

For your Company Breakfast you can select a good Menu like: -

  • Cookies, muffins, coffee
  • Muffins, Bagels/cream cheese, coffee
  • Muffins, fresh fruit, juice
  • Assorted baked goods, fresh fruit,
  • Juices and Coffee

Catering Lunch ideas

Lunch will generally have a salad of some type, whether it is a standard salad. An array of deli meats and cheeses are always a hit at lunch time. You can again serve fresh fruits and cheeses, and a vegetable tray with some tasty dip is also a good idea. Desserts can include things like ice cream sundaes or small finger desserts. Make sure to include plenty of vegetable dishes for non-meat eaters, and have a variety of light chicken dishes as well. Pasta salads and a section for light cookies are also a good addition to a business lunch.

For your Company Lunch you can select a good Menu like: -

  • Meat & cheese platter with ham, roast beef, turkey, American and Swiss cheeses.
  • Assorted breads: onion kaiser, croissant and marble rye bread.
  • Served with a relish tray consisting of sliced tomatoes, lettuce and pickle spears.
  • Coleslaw and potato salad
  • Assorted cookie tray
  • Assorted sodas
  • Salad: tomato and mozzarella, basil and balsamic drizzle

Catering Dinner ideas

Dinner can be as proper or formal as you like. If it is going to be a buffet style, go for a variety of meats. Hot side dishes should be served along with a salad of some sort. Think all the colors of the rainbow. Make sure your catering menu does not only include yellow or green foods. The more colors your guests see, the more appealing the catering menu will be. Desserts at dinner are usually a little more elaborate and can be varied to suit your tastes.

For your Company Dinner you can select a good Menu like: -

  • Lemon greek salad
  • Chicken breast dijon
  • Confetti wild rice
  • Broccoli with mushrooms and thyme
  • Dinner roll and promise
  • Rocky road brownie
  • Beverage
  • Cold buffets sold ala carte
