Popular chef Jamie Oliver has recently launched his latest venture; a new partnership with UK wine retailer Naked Wines www.nakedwines.com/jamieoliver

“A brilliant bit of news… JamieOliver.com is teaming up with a fantastic company called Naked Wines,” announced Jamie. “The great thing is, they have the same passion for food and wine as we do, and we’re working with really small, unsung wine producers from around the world, giving the smaller vineyards the chance to share their beautiful wines with the rest of us.”

Jamie’s official website now has a dedicated wine section which matches recipes to wines, offers general wine tips and promotes seasonal cases selected by Jamie himself.

“Jamie’s approach to food inspired us to launch Naked Wines, and he was the chef we wanted to work with above all others” explained Rowan Gormley, Founder and CEO. “The wine industry is often shrouded in emperor’s clothes, but Jamie’s shown that you can be be casual (as opposed to stuffy) and professional at the same time.”

Start-up wine retailer defies credit crunch by welcoming 20,000th customer in only 6 months

June 15th, 2009

New online wine retailer www.nakedwines.com/20000 has recruited its 20,000th new customer just 6 months after launching.

Kevan Evans, from Fife, Scotland, signed-up to become a Naked Wine Angel, a scheme which allows customers to sponsor indivudal winemakers looking to break into the UK market.

“Naked Wines is really rather different to any other wine retailer I’ve come across before, and very refreshing!” explained Kevin. “I’ve ordered from Laithwaites and Tescos.com in the past, but often found myself confronted with un-expected cases turning up on my doorstep, full of wines I didn’t choose.

Naked Wines allows me to set aside a small amount of money each month, which I can spend when I feel like it, on the wines I want. Kind of like a personal bottle saving plan! I also like the idea of buying from smaller producers.”

“Kevin was sent a case of champagne in celebration, and we’ll be popping the champagne corks too,” said Rowan Gormley, founder of Naked Wines.

Naked Wine Tastings being hosted all over the UK

June 12th, 2009

Online Farmer’s Market for wines, www.nakedwines.com/tastingsuk, is spreading the Naked word by hosting Tasting Events throughout the UK.

To promote the Tastings, the richly interactive retailer has recently added a ‘Tastings’ page to their site, where customers can type in their postcode to look for an event being hosted near their home. And if one crops up, they can then request an invite from the organiser.

“Here at Naked, our aim is to find better wines for less money than the supermarkets, and the best way to see for yourselves how good they can be is to taste them!”, explained a Naked Wines employee.

“The Tastings are a great way to meet fellow wine enthusiasts, and to find out what we’re all about. They’re open to existing Naked customers and non-Naked customers too.”

What makes the Tastings different from those hosted by other wine retailers, is the fact that the large majority are being hosted by the customers themselves, loyal fans who want to help the company in their mission to champion small winemakers.

Archangel customers, customers who are avid supporters of particular Naked wines or winemakers, can set up their own tasting events and add them to the site. More often than not, the winemaker will then send them some free wine as a thank you for promoting their products and generating sales for them.

To find an upcoming Wine Tasting near you, or to read more info about Naked Wines and their events, please visit www.nakedwines.com/tastingsuk

Naked Wines doubles range from top Châteauneuf-du-Pape producer

June 1st, 2009

Popular Naked Wines‘ producer Dominique Grangeon, heralded as the New Superstar of Châteauneuf-du-Pape by the Wine Advocate Magazine, has recently ramped up her range of wines on www.nakedwines.com

Following the huge customer popularity of all of her wines, which were part of the Naked Wines’ launch range in December 2008, Dominique (who’s received 95 parker points for various vintages), now has seven wines for sale on www.nakedwines.com These include a Vin de Pays Rosé which she recently produced exclusively for Naked Wines’ customers.

“The Vin de Pays Grenache 2007, a stunning wine which holds its own against the more expensive Cristia range, flew off the Naked Warehouse shelves,” explained a Naked Wines’ employee. “Customers have been blown away so ordering in the new 2008 vintage, as well as building up the Cristia range, was a no-brainer for us.”

“The web-link to the new wines leaked out before they were in stock, and we had customers calling up to order before the new vintages had even crossed the Channel!”

As well as relying on the quality of the wines themselves, Dominique has clearly drummed up a big fan base through chatting to her customers too. Visible on her profile page, she regularly finds the time to log-on to the Naked site to answer questions and post updates on her Wall.

Naked Wines ramp up wines from Loire Valley as customers pre-order hundreds of cases

June 1st, 2009

Popular Naked Wines‘ producer Joost de Villebois, a talented Dutchman who has settled in the Loire Valley, has recently caused quite a stir on the Naked Wines’ site.

His hugely popular Sauvignon Blanc 2007 was such a hit that customers have been lining up to pre-order hundreds of cases of his new vintage, due to arrive in the Naked Warehouse in the next couple of weeks.

Branded as an ‘absolute dream‘ by Dutch Wine Critic Hubrecht Duijker, Joost’s Sauvignon is claimed to blow Cloudy Bay Sauvignon out of the water, and at a fraction of the price.

“You only have to look at the customer comments on the website to see just how popular Joost is,” explained a Naked Wines’ employee. “Customers have been chatting to Joost by posting comments on his wall, pleading him to speed up the winemaking and bottling process!”

“Further proof of Joost’s popularity, are his 990 Naked Wine Angels, customers who have signed-up to sponsor and support him by setting aside £5 a month towards his wines. It’s a fantastic scheme which allows Joost to make a name for himself in the UK market, and offers his customers ongoing discounts and 6 wines for free when they join.”

The new range of wines soon to go on sale on the Naked Wines’ site include a Sauvignon Prestige, a Merlot Cabernet Franc, a Rosé and a champagne-busting Bubbly, an ideal summer arrival.

New Grenacha Rosé causes quite a Naked buzz

May 31st, 2009

With the summer sun finally settling in, wine lovers have been snapping their heels to stock up on some light, summer-friendly wines.

And Naked Wines‘ customers are certainly no exception.

The online farmer’s market for wine have been taking hundreds of orders for their new Castillo de Tafalla Rosado 2008, produced in the heart of the Navarra Valley by Frenchmen Monsieur Benoit Dreyer.

Customers have been waxing lyrical about the latest Spanish newcomer, and it even appears to be converting ‘non-Rosé’ drinkers.

“It’s a delight – full of summer berries, easy drinking – just perfect for BBQs and those long summer evenings in the conservatory… Already polished off 3 bottles, must order some more!” enthused one fan.

“Not usually a Rose person, probably more due to my small mindedness… This bottle has gone some way to convert me! I bought a bottle for my girlfriend, tried a little bit and now I’ve got another 6 bottles coming to last the summer. Though it’s probably too drinkable for it to last that long!” enthused another.

Since stocking this ‘summer in a glass’ rosado, which has received a handful or 4 and 5 star ratings, Naked Wines has added to the Castillo de Tafalla range by introducing the Tinto on their site too – a rich, fruity wine that can also be served at a BBQ.

Choose carefully when you buy wines online warns Naked Wines

February 26th, 2009

Norfolk ,U K – More and more people are ditching the well known ‘big nights out’ for ‘big nights in’ and with this comes a further desire for alcohol purchases. But as a nation of new found bargain hunters, we are all intent on picking up unbeatable offers and cut price bargains.

“Never before have we been as exposed to a multitude of mind blowing deals when we look to buy booze to support our newly enjoyed nights in” says founder of Naked Wines, Rowan Gormley.

But the offers you find when you go to buy wines online are often not as good as they may seem. Most of us don’t realise that the majority of supermarket wine deals are funded by the winemakers, which, of course, only the big, money making wine companies can afford to do. This sadly means UK wine drinker’s choices tend to be determined by the size of the winemaker’s marketing budgets and not our taste buds.

“The real challenge when you want to buy wines online, is not feeling forced into buying the industrialized, mass-produced, branded wines, but finding real wine from real places and real people.

“We set up Naked Wines as something of an online ‘farmer’s market’, focused on connecting wine lovers with smaller wine producers from around the world who don’t have the financial muscle to get on to the UK supermarket shelves. By connecting producers directly to buyers we are enabling them to spend more time doing what they are good at, while lowering the price of buying wines online for our customers.”

So couple the great tastes and great value of buying from Naked Wines, with access to advice, views and recommendations from the other customers (and the wine growers themselves) and your search for the perfect partner to your next night in is over.

What’s more, to add a little more entertainment to your wine search, Naked Wines has launched an online wine auction, allowing you to bid for your bottles and giving you the chance to pay the price you would like to pay when you buy wines online
rather than the price you are so often forced to.

With next day delivery at £4.99, and a 100% taste satisfaction refund guarantee,Naked Wines makes the quest to buy wines online so much simpler. To discover more about Naked Wines visit www.nakedwines.com

Renegade wins Toasted Head Wine account

February 11th, 2009

New York, NY (February 11, 2009) – Toasted Head, an ultra premium brand of Constellation Wines U.S., a division of Constellation Brands, Inc. (NYSE: STZ), hired Renegade to drive 2009 PR, events and digital promotions. “We are thrilled to be working with Renegade,” noted Marketing Director, Lisa Kalfus “They fully understand our brand and are very skilled at finding cost-effective ways to help us connect with our target,” she added.

“Toasted Head is a distinctive brand with a loyal consumer following,” offered Drew Neisser, CEO of Renegade. “Thanks to the fire-breathing bear on their label and the toasted barrels they use to make the wines, there is really a wonderful story to tell,” he added.

In an increasingly cluttered market, it is important to apply initiatives that allow consumers to have an engaging and memorable experience with the Toasted Head brand. Renegade’s 360° experience for Toasted Head will begin with a call for consumers to “Fire Things Up.” Toasted Head becomes the vehicle for consumers to take a merely good occasion and turn it into something great.

The “Fire Things Up” platform will be applied at national events as well as in the social media space online. These ambitions will allow Toasted Head to start a dialog with both their existing customers and those new to the brand. The goal is for the conversation to lead to a community of loyal Toasted Heads, those who identify with the brand’s playfully rebellious attitude. The new campaign is currently in the planning and development phases and will be launched this spring.

About Toasted Head
Toasted Head and the fire-breathing bear began their amazing journey in 1995. From a winery tucked away in the Dunnigan Hills of Yolo County, they set out to spread the word of toasted barrels and their distinctive influence on wine. Toasted Head is named for the age-old practice of toasting barrel heads and staves that imparts a mellow, toasted flavor to barrel-aged wines. The fire-breathing bear on the label was originally inspired by a drawing created by artist Robert Shetterly for a poem entitled “Speaking Fire at Stones.”

Toasted Head is marketed by VineOne, headquartered in San Francisco, CA. VineOne is the premium and super premium wine division of Constellation Wines U.S. (CWUS), the largest wine company in the U.S. based upon sales dollar value. CWUS encompasses three wine businesses: VineOne, Icon Estates, and Centerra Wine Company. The CWUS portfolio includes such brands as Woodbridge by Robert Mondavi, Robert Mondavi Private Selection, Ravenswood, Nobilo, Blackstone, Robert Mondavi Winery, Simi, Estancia and Wild Horse. CWUS is an operating division of Constellation Brands, Inc., a leading international producer and marketer of beverage alcohol in the wine, spirits and imported beer categories.
