A New Jobsite Website Is Open For Business

June 21st, 2009

June 2009 – Job losses in the UK media industry have led to the creation of a jobsite specifically for people working in journalism and public relations.

The site, pressjobs.co.uk , works hand-in-hand with top recruitment agencies and employers to provide a free resource for those looking for work in the media.

Press jobs.co.uk is made up of former journalists and public relations professionals. Unlike other media related job sites pres jobs.co.uk is not owned by a multinational or conglomerate.

“We’re a jobsite for the media made by people who actually work in the media,” a spokesman said. “jobs.co.uk Press is dedicated to keeping the media industry moving by providing a free job service for our friends and colleagues. We’ve had enormous support from recruitment consultancies across the board. It makes economic sense to advertise a job vacancy for free rather than paying the hefty charges levied by other recruitment sites. These media jobs sites seem to ignore the fact that costs are being cut almost everywhere you look.”

Media businesses have been forced to restructure, ahead of what is expected to be a painful 2009. Redundancy programmes were unveiled at Trinity Mirror, which has cut 1,200 jobs and axed 44 titles, Channel 4, which will reduce its workforce by 200, and at Independent News & Media, where 90 jobs are being lost.

The Daily Mail and General Trust announced the cutting of 400 jobs last month. In the magazine world, Emap and Haymarket also undertook significant reductions in their headcounts. Pundits expect further cuts to take place at Telegraph Media Group and job losses are expected at the Financial Times. Some 500 posts are believed to be under threat at ITV’s regional news operations, according to the National Union of Journalists. Although regional newspaper groups were encouraged by the BBC Trust’s decision last month to reject the corporation’s plans for a local video-based online service, the BBC said the decision would cost the jobs of 200 journalists.

The spokesman said: “There is no denying the fact that the face of the media industry is changing across the United Kingdom. But there are still hundreds of jobs being created every week in public relations and journalism. Press jobs.co UK is all about providing a showcase for these vacancies.”

Who Would you Hire You As a Sound Engineer?

April 12th, 2009

For Immediate Release

Stephane Meer, Head Manager of a Post-Production Facility, revealed his secret for selecting candidates to a sound engineering job.

“What you learn in a school will at max be 50% of what you need to know” he said in his blog.

“Knowledge is important but the key is attitude”

The original and interesting angle is that technical competence is only a small part of what makes someone a possible recruit. The emphasis is given on four attitude topics that could relate to many a job:

1/Attitude toward a technical difficulty

2/Attitude toward the questions you should ask yourself

3/Attitude toward the company team

4/Attitude toward the customers
