PITTSBURGH, Nov. 19, 2010 — Gateway Analytical will be presenting research findings  from a validation study that applied NIST-traceable size standards to data obtained from the ingredient-specific particle size analysis, an approach that uses wide-field Raman chemical imaging (RCI) to determine drug-specific particle measurements, of nasal spray samples. Results will be presented, Dec. 8-9 at Drug Delivery to the Lungs 21 (DDL21), Edinburgh International Conference Centre, Edinburgh, United Kingdom.

The study, titled Application of NIST-Traceable Size Standards to Ingredient-Specific Particle Sizing, used Raman chemical images of Rhinocort Aqua^® droplets to detect and measure particles of its active ingredient, budesonide. A calibration model was then created utilizing Raman chemical images of NIST-traceable polystyrene microsphere sizing standards and applied to the Rhinocort RCI data, which showed promising results.
