Christmas Island – Republic of Kiribati
February 14th, 2008Mesa, Az. Febuary 19, 2008
A Mesa, arizona man has been requested by the Tourism Office on Christmas Island to help to encourage travel to the island. Mr. Robert H. Allen, a retired Computer Consultant, is trying to raise capital to start a souvenir store by acquiring the equipment so the citizens of Christmas Island can print t-shirt, mugs, plaques, tot bags, etc.
Chistmas Island has a population of 6,000. Tourists last year to the island were approximatly 2,500. This will increase by approximetly 500 this year.
Mr. Allen is trying to raise between $30,000.00 and $35,000.00, which would be more than adequate. This enterprise is to be owned and operated by the citizens of Christmas Island. Mr. Allen is receiving no salary for this, he is volunteering to do this. The reason for doing this service is that Mr. Allen spent 6 months working on the island in 1962, in which time the United States was testing 24 nuclear weapons. Before the US, Great Britain tested its nuclear weapons there in late 1950′s. Mr. Allen believes that it is time to give back help to the citizens by expanding tourism.
