APRIL 25th, 2009 – SAN DIEGO GREEN CAREER CONFERENCE AT SDSU

U.S. and California jobless numbers are climbing, threatening to grow to the worst rates since the

Great Depression. But thanks to billions in stimulus money, there is one sector of the economy

that will soon be booming… the green sector.

The U.S. Conference of Mayors and the American Solar Energy Society, along with numerous

Universities and researchers have predicted aggressive job growth across the green economy.

As an example, the Center for Energy, Resources, and Economic Sustainability (CERES)

at the University of California Berkeley conducted a scenario analysis for the California

Air Resources Board in which they said that California AB 32 would increase “the Gross

State Product by about $76 billion, real household incomes by up to $48 billion and

create as many as 403,000 new efficiency and climate action driven jobs. The

economic benefits of energy efficiency innovation have a compounding effect. The

first 1.4 percent of annual efficiency gain produced about 181,000 additional jobs,

while an additional one percent yielded 268,000 more.”

With this and more in mind, the San Diego Renewable Energy Society and the Solar Living

Institute are teaming up to help workers explore & secure green career opportunities. On April 25th

they will present the San Diego Green Career Conference at SDSU.

The conference will provide extensive information and insider tips on emerging opportunities in

the green sector, as well as green career consultants and recruiters with practical tools and

strategies for a successful green job search. Speakers include Joel Pointon, SDG&E’s Clean

Transportation Program Manager; United States Green Building Council San Diego Chapter

President Keith Schneringer, The San Diego Foundation’s Dr. Emily Young; Andrew McAllister

of the California Center for Sustainable Energy; Paul Hannam of Bright Green Talent, and more.

Panelists and presenters from across the green sector will discuss opportunities in the fields of

photovoltaics, solar thermal, wind power, green building, energy efficiency, entrepreneurialism

and more. Conference participants will have the opportunity to ask panelists and speakers

questions pertaining to their specific situations, as well as receive free resume review services.

Ample networking time will also be made available to attendees.

Conference organizer Orion Walker says the recent Good Jobs Green Jobs conference in

Washington, D.C. exhibited that now is the perfect time to enter the green career market. “The

excitement in the air was palpable,” Walker said, “We heard time and again from senators,

congress members, and other government officials that ‘now is the time.’ This administration is

truly dedicated to building the green economy. In these economic times, this is the way forward.”
