New Plant Based Absorbent Mat Reduces Carbon Footprint
February 18th, 2010New Pig Ltd, the UK based manufacturer of spill control products have announced a new eco-friendly absorbent mat that reduces carbon footprints and helps businesses meet their Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.
PLANT™ Mat is made from 90% sustainable materials and is designed for use in the cleanup and containment of industrial and workplace spills. The new absorbent material is non woven in construction and is instead formed by bonding and blending natural materials to form a highly absorbent and economical mat.
The construction has positive implications for carbon offsetting. Plants consume CO2 and produce oxygen offsetting a significant portion of carbon emissions generated from planting through processing.
The new eco-friendly mat is available in Universal and Oil only versions. Universal PLANT™ Mat absorbs a wide range of liquids including water, oils, petrol, cutting fluids, lubricants as well as alcohols, esters, halocarbons, hydrocarbons and silicones. The oil only version, Oil-only PLANT™ Mat, is specially treated with a nature friendly application so that it absorbs petroleum-based liquids, but not water.
Both versions are heat-treated to eliminate pathogens and ensure the product is sterile. PLANT™ Mat is flame retardant so it won’t burn when exposed to flame.

They supply their absorbent mats in small pads or large rolls so that it can be wrapped around machinery or laid out to form a barrier to prevent large spills from spreading.
