Ukrainian sugar factory “Babyn Tsukor” launched the construction of one of the world’s largest biogas plants

October 13th, 2009

12 October 2009 An engineering plan of a biogas plant for a sugar factory “Babyn Tsukor” in Rivne region, Ukraine has successfully been accomplished by the leading experts of ZORG Ukraine. According the contract, signed in May 2009 by INSECO and ZORG Ukraine, the latter takes responsibilities of the prime contractor and developer of the following project.

Construction will take place in two years to come (2009-2011), going through a number of subsequent stages. During the first construction stage a plant with 3 reactors is going to be built, having the capacity of 4 millions m3 of gas per annum. More so, another 27 reactors are going to be built in course of the rest of the construction stages.

The plant will be functioning for 2 seasons per year. For a time period of 100 days per year the plant will use the wastage of the sugar factory “Babyn Tsukor” – 3600 tons of beet marc per day. During the rest of the operating time the plant will use 800 tons of corn silo per day.

Biogas is going to be purified to the stage of being equivalent to the natural gas according to the GOST and then supplied for the Ukrainian gas pipeline network. By the end of construction works, plant’s capacity will reach 40 millions m3 of biogas per annum, with the net cost of the purified gas being only 30$ for 1 000 of m3.

INSECO Company is planning to increase plant’s capacity up to 1 milliard m3 per annum in course of the next 4-5 years.

Biogas plant to be build is going to be one of the world’s largest. Even though one can easily find thousands of biogas plants working in various regions of the world nowadays, there exist not more then 20 biogas plants that share equal capacity.
