Bird Bowl and Latin Touch Catering Do Super Bowl Sunday Right!

February 22nd, 2011

Feb 18, 2011 – The lanes began to fill early Sunday afternoon and stayed that way throughout the big game, with over 100 reservations coming within an hour of kickoff. To go along with Miami’s best deal on bowling, patrons were greeted with a delicious whole pig roast prepared in a La Caja Asadora Caja China style Roasting Box by Latin Touch Catering. Samples of “pan con lechon” were brought to the lanes for all to enjoy, with full plates being served once the game was underway. The event was a follow-up to the sold-out New Year’s Eve bash held just over a month prior.

About the event, Latin Touch president Mat Masters said, “This is why I love what I do. To be able to put smiles on hundreds of faces while enjoying great company and a great game, that’s what it’s all about. Jerry (Bird Bowl GM Jerry Mugar) has a great thing going here. To see this place packed every time we sponsor an event is a testament to the job he’s doing here.”

Masters personally worked the event, bringing the pig out to be displayed before beginning the carving into delicious bite-sized samples of pan con lechon that were delivered to the patrons as they bowled. Located in Westchester, which has one of the country’s most densely Cuban populations, the caja china concept is not unfamiliar to many of those who were in attendance.

The caja china style whole pig roast is a staple of many Hispanic and Caribbean peoples, and has been a big part of Miami’s unique culture for generations. Maria Lopez explained it this way, “Ever since I was a little girl we did a pork roast for Christmas Eve and New Years, so to see one here really brought me back to that and all the great memories I have. And the pork was absolutely delicious.”

Wholesaler Chinavasion Responds to Closure of Global Sources Direct

December 26th, 2008

Shenzhen, Guangdong ( prfriend.com ) December, 25, 2008 The global economic downturn’s latest victim was China ecommerce site “Global Sources Direct”, which closed for business on December 1.
Sources close to the firm reacted with surprise at the abrupt closure, and reflected on the challenges the Global Sources Direct business model faced.
Global Sources Direct was a venture of NASDAQ-listed Global Sources, in operation since June 2005. The company was a joint venture between the business to business giant and online auction site eBay.
Offering no detailed public explanation for the closure, General Manager Jennifer Leung made the announcement with a simple website message on December 9, 2008.
Representatives of wholesale distributor Chinavasion has since reacted, giving their analysis of the critical difficulties Global Sources Direct faced.
The first issue Chinavasion representatives identified was the difficulty of managing ‘virtual inventory’.
Major ecommerce sellers, like Amazon.com have pioneered the concept of “Virtual Inventory” which has the seller relying on suppliers for stock.
In such a system, the seller does not actually carry any volume of stock themselves. They instead rely on the goodwill between themselves and their suppliers.
According to Chinavasion’s Rose Li, this is an impracticable approach in a developing economy like Mainland China.
“Virtual inventory means you rely totally on your suppliers. As the seller, you cannot afford inconsistency in product quality or supply,” says Rose Li. “But most manufacturers in China cannot yet offer quality control or stock efficiency that is acceptable for international buyers.”
In response to such challenges Chinese Wholesaler Chinavasion has reported ongoing investment in its own in-house quality control process, checking all items before they go onto warehouse shelves.
Secondly, at Chinavasion, products are only advertised for sale if they are actually ready to be shipped to customers.
“Virtual inventory can never be a substitute for real inventory,” summarized Rose Li.
Chinavasion’s Rose Li predicted that Global Sources would now focus on its core activities of business-to-business media and advertising.

A signal for Tibet – The Fashion rEvolution supports “9 Fingers for Tibet” and the peaceful protests against China

April 30th, 2008

Athletes and spectators making a clear point for a free Tibet in a peaceful manner… does this work? A solution for this problem is given by “9 Fingers for Tibet“, without words, but meaningful at the same time. Simply put your hands up in the air and bend the right thumb towards the palm. This way the remaining fingers symbolize the four letters FREE, while the five fingers of your left hand signify TIBET. The signal was invented by Marc Strotmann of the Munich based agency Xynias, Wetzel. A simple sign through which China can be given a piece of peoples’ mind from everywhere in the world.

Priceless: Everybody can participate! This signal works very easily and without any aggression, but nevertheless with a high penetrating power.

The Fashion rEvolution supports the campaign by distributing the logo on their organic and fair produced polo shirts and by this giving a clear additional statement: who wants to blame China for human rights abuse, should not do so in cheap clothes made in China, manufactured under inhumane conditions and exploitive child labor. Since this week the eco-fair shirts with the 9 fingers logo are available in their online-shop www.better-dressed.com. Half of the net profit will be donated to the “TIBETAN FAMILY HELP“ (TFH), a Swiss organization helping Tibetan refugees in Nepal by arranging godparenthoods. TFH also financially supports a school hostel for children of refugees in Chialsa, Nepal and built a hospital in an isolated area in Eastern Tibet to establish the required medical care. Exclusively counting on volunteer work, TFH is furthermore able to pass on 100% of the donations.
