Consumers look at more mobile handsets than houses before making a purchase

June 10th, 2010

After conducting a poll of just over 2,000 people, the UK’s leading mobile phone comparison website has found that, on average, consumers look at more mobile phones and deals than they do cars or houses, prior to making a purchase.

A poll commissioned by the UK’s leading mobile phone comparison site has discovered that consumers view more mobile phones and deals than houses and cars before making a purchase.

The study, by www.rightmobilephone.co.uk, of 2,036 people aged 21-35 found that the respondents would look at an average of 5 houses before renting or buying one, whilst when it came to a vehicle, respondents would look at an average of 3 cars before making a purchase.

When it came to mobile phones however, respondents claimed to look at an average of 7 handsets and 9 tariffs before parting with their cash. The aim of the poll by www.rightmobilephone.co.uk was to look into buying habits of Brits and their research before spending habits.

The respondents were asked to give reasons as to why they looked at a certain number of different products before making a purchase and, when it came to mobile phones, 67% felt there was ‘too much choice’ which is what prompted them to looking into their options before committing to a sale.

In terms of properties, with 5 being the number people view on average before renting or buying, 83% felt they only viewed houses they thought they would move into, which limited the number they looked at.

The same could be said for cars, with 71% claiming they knew what vehicle they wanted before the started looking, hence limiting the number they actually looked at.

Neil McHugh, co-founder of rightmobilephone.co.uk, said;

“I’d agree that there is a huge amount of choice out there when it comes to mobile phones and tariffs, but the purpose of our website is to help people pick the right phone for them in a short space of time. With that said, I was still surprised to see that people actually look at more handsets and tariffs than they do houses and cars before buying.”

He continued, “Usually, the more expensive the item, the more time people take over making a decision to buy, but there are obviously a lot of people who are a bit bewildered by the sheer number of handsets and tariffs available, which is causing them to ponder more over their final decision. Hopefully, sites such as rightmobilephone.co.uk can help reduce the amount of time spent searching for a mobile by consumers.”

Dragons’ Den Winner – trueCall – has the perfect gadget for a peaceful Christmas

September 1st, 2009

Peter Jones dubbed it the “best invention I’ve seen on Dragons’ Den”; the inventor made history by having all five Dragons falling over themselves trying to invest, and this Christmas trueCall is set to take the consumer technology market by storm!

Fans of the popular BBC show ‘Dragons’ Den’ will already be familiar with trueCall, the ‘life altering’ device that allows the user to screen their phonecalls after witnessing entrepreneur Steve Smith making history by igniting the flames of all five Dragons as they battled to invest in his invention. Eventually Steve accepted the bid of telecoms, media and property tycoon Peter Jones for the smallest equity he has ever taken on the show – a 12.5% stake.

“It’s the best invention I’ve seen in 7 series’ of Dragons’ Den – I honestly believe this ground-breaking device will kill off the curse of the cold call which brings misery to so many people” – Peter Jones

Recorded message calls, sales calls, market research calls, malicious calls, silent calls and fax attacks -anyone unfortunate enough to have their personal details fall into the wrong hands is only too aware of the impact on their home life.

trueCall acts as a buffer between the phone and the outside world and learns to distinguish between welcome and unwelcome callers (by an intuitive ‘star’ and ‘zap’ feature). trueCall intercepts all unknown numbers to the user’s landline answering the call and asks the caller to say their name, only then does it ring the phone and tells the householder who is calling. If the caller’s number is on a “zap list” – numbers of telemarketers or other nuisance callers – the device answers it, and all future calls from that number, with an automated message which means the phone does not ring at all.

Multi award winning trueCall was developed in the UK, and is the first product of its type in the World!

Now is the time to regain control of your phoneline.

trueCall offers complete peace of mind with a once stop solution making it the ideal Christmas gift for family, friends or anyone who has found themselves on the receiving end of the tirade.

The trueCall device costs £97.50 from the trueCall website www.truecall.co.uk, Amazon.co.uk, the BT Online shop, the QVC Home Shopping Channel and from selected John Lewis stores.

Connecticut BBB warns against a summer scam going door-to-door nationwide

May 8th, 2009

Trying to help a good cause could get you ripped off by fraudulent magazine salespeople

Wallingford, CT – May 8, 2009 – Better Business Bureau warns that deceptive door-to-door magazine sales crews are hitting the pavement in Connecticut, and looking to earn a quick buck this summer. In the last 12 months alone, BBB’s across the nation received 1,100 complaints from consumers in 46 states against more than 50 companies that are selling magazines door-to-door. A number of these complaints were filed by Connecticut consumers.

Many of these companies employ crews of high school and college-age people who are trying to earn money over their summer break. These crews are sent to communities to knock on doors and sell magazines—sometimes without appropriate licensing. In the sales pitch, the representative might explain they are working to help raise money on behalf of a charity, for a school trip or even selling subscriptions to support troops in Iraq.

A Greater New Haven woman said a pair of students claiming they were from the University of Rhode Island, knocked on her door, said they lived “down the street,” and were selling magazines and books to “go to London.” Later, when she became suspicious, she called police, filed a report with Connecticut Better Business Bureau and put a stop on her check.

Connecticut Better Business Bureau President, Paulette Scarpetti, says victims readily believe the phony sales pitch and often pay hundreds of dollars by check. However, complaints allege the sales reps took the checks and the magazines never arrived.

“We are alerting consumers to this scam to prevent an epidemic of door-to-door magazine fraud. We encourage all Connecticut residents to be vigilant, and to inform their children, parents and grandparents about this type of operation.”

Scarpetti adds that consumers are not the only victims of this scam.

“The young salespeople also are being taken advantage of by their employers, forced to work long hours and having their wages withheld from them.”

BBB offers the following advice to avoid getting scammed by a door-to-door magazine sales scam:

•Always research the company with your Better Business Bureau at www.bbb.org before issuing a check for a magazine subscription.

•The Federal Trade Commission’s Three-Day Cooling-Off Rule gives the customer three days to cancel purchases over $25 that are made in their home or at a location that is not the seller’s permanent place of business. Along with a receipt, salespeople should also include a completed cancellation form that customers can send to the company to cancel the agreement. By law, the company must give customers a refund within 10 days of receiving the cancellation notice.

•Victims of fraudulent magazine sales can file a complaint with their Better Business Bureau at www.bbb.org, local law enforcement, and the state Attorney General’s office.

HaroldSays is promoting ‘The Be Positive Do Something Positive Day’ on March 1, 2008

November 10th, 2007

Harold Cameron, the Chief of Helping People and Consumer Advocate for HaroldSays is promoting The Be Positive Do Something Positive Day on March 1, 2008. The Be Positive Do Something Positive Day is a day for people all over the world to experience and celebrate by BEING positive and then by DOING something positive on that day for another person, organization, or charitable cause. The end result, if only for one day, is to make our world a more positive and better place to be and to live in.

To properly celebrate the day each of us must first start with ourselves by BEING positive and then DOING something positive for ourselves – ideally when we begin our day.

Next, for The Be Positive Day to truly be a success, we must then BE positive and DO something positive in our homes for our families. Our positive act does not need to be huge or monumental, but rather, can be something seemingly small such as cooking dinner for our family and then eating and enjoying it together as a family.

Finally, for The Be Positive Do Something Positive Day to be a “positively” world changing success worldwide, we all need to BE positive and then DO something positive for another person, organization, or charitable cause. If we are a student, we could do something positive for a fellow student. If we are an employee of a company or organization, we might do something positive for one of our co-workers. We could also do something positive for an organization such as The American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, Stand Up For Kids, Charity Buzz, Nickelby Project, Do Something, or some other organization or cause we believe in and want to help.

Let’s all join together on March 1, 2008 and make it the most positive day our world has ever celebrated or experienced.

HaroldSays, “Making our world a more positive place, one day at a time!”
