41% of people would rather go withou their partner for a week than the internet

February 12th, 2010

The UK’s fastest growing shopping website has released the results of its latest research, which show that 41% of people in a relationship would rather go without their partner for a week than the internet.

New research commissioned by one of the UK’s fastest growing shopping websites, www.OffersSupermarket.co.uk, of 1,923 people in a relationship has revealed that just over two fifths of the respondents would rather be without their other half for 7 days than be parted from the internet.

OffersSupermarket.co.uk asked those who favour the internet over their loved one, why they would make that choice. 36% said they had a fear of being cut off from their friends and family via the internet for that amount of time, whilst 1 in 5 said that being cut off from news and current affairs would be too much to bear. 11% unashamedly admitted they needed the internet more than their partner, whether it was down to work or just personal use.

A further 24% said they could use their computer to contact their partner anyway if they had to be parted from them instead and 8% claimed the internet was more reliable than their partner.

The study also found that 1 in 5 if the respondents would be more upset if they lost or misplaced their computer or laptop than if they were dumped by their partner and 18% claimed their computer held more memories in terms of photos, emails and video footage, than their relationship.

Other findings from the study included 85% of the people asked saying that their relationship would be negatively affected if they didn’t have the internet to keep in touch with their partner on a day-to-day basis and 67% said they felt more loved if they received an email from their other half.

Of the 41% who said that they would rather go without their partner for a week instead of going without the internet, 57% said that they would miss social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter the most, whilst 22% said that they couldn’t live without their daily emails.

Eve Atkins, Managing director of OffersSupermarket.co.uk said;

“Once people get used to the luxury and practicality of having the internet to hand, it’s pretty difficult to learn to go without it for a day, let alone a whole week! I think our findings here demonstrate the value of a computer and the internet to people in society today and the fact that a fair few would rather go without their partner for a week than be without the internet is quite surprising.”

She continued, “For those who would be more upset to lose their PC than be dumped, I think that has little to say about the relationship and a lot to say about the computer.”

May 31st, 2009

London, England ( PRFriend ) May 29, 2009  – The brilliant free online dating website Facefitter.com has found an interesting approach to planting the seeds of love. Online users are now able to upload their favourite music to Facefitter RADIO in order to impress potential love interests with the sound of music.

Facefitter RADIO enables users to upload their favourite music online. The uploaded music title appears alongside their profile picture and a link to their individual profile page, just in case the music has encouraged an interested potential love match to get in contact.

CEO Andrew Thomas commented on facefitter RADIO this week saying, “We were looking for a new approach to getting people talking and finding out more about each other. Using music as a common interest and a way to break the ice we think was absolutely genius. Since launching facefitter RADIO we have been inundated with user feedback which has been 100% positive so far. Users find it easier to start a conversation because they immediately have something in common, something to talk about without the usual, familiar introductions. We understand that all of our users are different and so to ensure we cater for everyone, we have created a drop down list of different styles of music, so users can search for members easily and search for those that like listening to the same type of music. We are confident that facefitter RADIO is going to be the reason behind a huge number of love stories and hopefully long, happy and beautiful relationships. The best thing about facefitter Radio is that it is 100% free for all online dating members.”

Lacap Announces the Expansion of Couples Therapy (Marriage or Relationship Counselling)

May 23rd, 2009

Donald Kirkpatrick, psychoanalyst at the London Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, said: “Couples Therapy (Marriage or Relationship Counselling) at Lacap is receiving further clinical resources, as we have found demand for this service is increasing.”

“This is particularly in the current climate with worries about work and redundancy starting to affect the cohesion of couples and families. And with the concomitant problems of reliance on drugs, alcohol, gambling, & pornography as escapes from reality, and the increasing amounts of stress, anger and unfulfilled expectations that impact on our relationships and on our sexual lives.” Donald Kirkpatrick commented.

Donald Kirkpatrick announced that he was pleased to welcome Anando Emryss and Sara Breinlinger as Associate Members. The addition of these two Couples Therapists to the clinical team will expand service provision for Couples Therapy (Marriage or Relationship Counselling) by some 100 clinical hours per month to around 175 therapy sessions.
