Secure Digital (SD) and Multimedia Card (MMC) are electrically the same, except Secure Digital supports “Digital Rights Management”. “Digital Rights Management” is seldom used and applies to purchased music or video. Secure Digital Cards are also thicker than MMC (2.1mm vs 1.4mm). Many SD also carry a write-protect tab on the side which is used by the writing device to prevent overwrites.
