First ‘citizen therapy’ social network, Big White Wall, tackles global mental health

April 21st, 2008

‘Citizen Therapy’ website, Big White Wall (bigwhitewall.com), is the first emotional health network where people can express themselves anonymously without fear of being judged or stigmatised. Big White Wall empowers individuals from all over the world to reach out and share support with their online neighbours.

Big White Wall users express their secrets, fears or deeper concerns on a brick on The Wall by uploading images, drawing or writing. The brick is then posted alongside thousands of others on The Wall, each of which represents one unit of human emotion. The range of topics posted so far is vast, from self harm and depression, to family issues and relationship problems; all of which can lead to mental health problems if not addressed.

Big White Wall offers peer support, or ‘citizen therapy’, as users interact with each other by commenting on bricks, offering views and encouragement in the Talkabout forum or through using one-to-one private messaging.

At a time when emotional health is fast being recognized as a global issue with anxiety and depression are set to become the second largest health problem by 2020, with economic recession beckoning, and with increasing doubt about the value of medication as an adequate response to poor mental health, Big White Wall offers a life-enhancing space for those who need a place to express what is really on their mind. As one of the users recently commented:

‘I am very new in here, finding my way to the wall is my last attempt to keep fighting. I find everything so difficult to bear at the moment, but this community is somehow enabling me to continue the struggle. I thank you for your kind welcome and for all the people who have not turned their back on me in my moment of crisis. My only hope is that when my strength returns, I can be as empathetic as you all.’ JayT

The Big White Wall audience is hugely varied and more recently has included US and UK military veterans struggling to come to terms with rehabilitation into civilian life as well as those who are feeling the bite of economic downturn. Also on Big White Wall are concerned parents, distressed and lonely college students, individuals struggling with their sexuality, and many others.

The one thing all these users share is a struggle to express how they are really feeling to their friends and family. On Big White Wall people share issues in a safe online space to gain the confidence to have emotionally healthy lives offline.

Founder Jenny Hyatt, Chairman Vanda Scott OBE, and CEO Charlotte Vere of Big White Wall, are all available for interview

New ActivePure Technology proven to reduce exposure to Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA)

December 13th, 2007

A new technology known as ActivePure (RCI), developed by Tennessee-based EcoQuest International, has been proven in peer-reviewed, published university laboratory studies to reduce Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) on inoculated surfaces.

Recent outbreaks of MRSA in many school districts have had school administrators and parents concerned.

Based on NASA research, ActivePure (RCI) has been proven in laboratory testing at Kansas State University to reduce MRSA by more than 99 percent in 24 hours on surface areas. This has enormous implications for reducing exposure to infection-causing germs.

“ActivePure safely inactivates germs in the environment 24 hours a day, without sprays or wipes, the same way it happens in nature,” said EcoQuest Founder Mike Jackson.

“And, it’s convenient. One of our systems called the ecobox is about the size of a toaster,” said Jackson. “You can move it all around the environment.”

Testing also proved that the units reduce other bacteria, viruses, yeast, mold and fungi on surfaces by up to 99 percent. Products using ActivePure (RCI) have been installed in schools, day cares, nursing homes and restaurants. This technology is also available to consumers.

“The use of ActivePure can reduce exposure by inactivating a majority of harmful bacteria, viruses and mold from surfaces in the protected area,” said Dr. James Marsden, Regents Distinguished Professor at Kansas State University and a lead researcher involved with the testing.

“In combination with good hygiene practices, such as hand washing, a reduction in bacteria and viruses on environmental surfaces could reduce the risk of infections,” said Marsden.

DNA is all the buzz with testing becoming the norm for authenticating exclusive products – Now Perfume joins the ranks

December 13th, 2007

My DNA Fragrance introduces First Exclusive and Revolutionary Fragrance Formulation Process using DNA blueprints to create Personalized Perfume
Beverly Hills, CA DNA identity test are becoming the new norm in determining exclusivity and many manufacturers are using it to authenticate everything from art and cosmetics to wine, making DNA testing a more and more common practice in the creation of exclusive authentic products. So why not fragrance?”

For consumers desiring exclusive personalized products, My DNA Fragrance™ introduces the first one-of-a-kind revolutionary fragrance that is uniquely formulated using each customer’s DNA profile as the blueprint to create a biologically seductive liquid treasure that caresses the secret desires of the mind. Unlike the 30,000 mass produced and celebrity endorsed fragrances on the market today, the fragrance offers you the opportunity to leave a memory of you in every room.

While US sales lag slightly behind the products phenomenal international success the Company is ahead of the wave in DNA based product launches introduced in the US and stands to gain quickly from its revolutionary DNA fragrance formulation process as it has no fragrance competitors.

When asked what he sees as the biggest challenge in bringing DNA based products to the US market; Zack Gaskin, President of GFI Laboratory stated, “One of the biggest challenges is giving consumers the confidence that their private information will remain private and that no further testing will be performed without their approval.”

Still it is interesting to note that we are literally leaving our DNA everywhere we go, whether it is in the gym, a restaurant, a public restroom, the subway, etc… We leave it in the form of sweat, tears, saliva, hair or dead skin cells leaving a trail of DNA that can be traced right back to us everyday. So why the fear?

US consumers are bombarded daily with entertainment keen on using DNA based forensics to capture criminals or fantasies about DNA cloning on television making them more cautious about waving a DNA swab freely for testing even though generally more and more consumers are participating in DNA based studies and purchasing DNA tests for paternity, genealogy, and forensics every day. International consumers have fewer reservations when submitting their DNA for testing than Americans as DNA testing has been embraced as a norm for individual identity purposes abroad and even the bus drivers in the UK carry DNA collection kits as part of their routine requirement.

Per Gaskin, “DNA holds a colossal amount of information, most of which scientists have yet to learn how to read, but getting all the information that your genetic code holds is not an easy task and much more expensive to produce than the price one pays for testing. DNA tests have to be focused on the genetic markers that have been determined to provide specific information. In the past 5-10 years, DNA testing has become a common household phrase and the blueprint of life is trusted by millions of people each year to help solve issues and provide information about ourselves that was not possible in the past.

My DNA Fragrance™ has tapped into a process that combines the fields of genomics and chemistry to produce a fragrance that is specific to your genetic code. We all have a unique set of building blocks that make up our genetic code. The pattern of the building blocks determines many things about how our bodies will function and react. In the field of personalized medicine, researchers around the globe are trying to determine from your DNA how you will react to medications and your susceptibility to disease based on your genetic code. The goal being that in the future you will go to your doctor and have a DNA screening that will provide you with specific information about you that will, in turn, provide a specific treatment that is best for you. My DNA Fragrance™ has unlocked the potential of our DNA and allowed us a premier to the future of a personalized lifestyle.”

Disease and Dust mites threaten family health

November 8th, 2007

Disease and dust mites threaten family health.

Fort Wayne, IN - November 7, 2007 - Dust mites may be causing your breathing discomfort. Medical professionals know that runny nose, sneezing, itchy eyes, sore throats, and other symptoms triggered by allergens are present in every home. No matter how clean you think your house is, no matter if you use the most advanced cleaners and cleaning techniques some of these particles which threaten your family’s health get through. Dust mites, pollens, mold spores, smoke bacteria, and house dust are airborne. This means that unless you can seal your home surgical clean, they will get through every time you open a door or a window.

Mites are a particular threat because they lurk in corners of rooms and other hard-to-clean areas. They contain and spread germs. No once-a-day or once-a-week cleaning method totally works. Only continuous air filtering rids a home of enough of these pesky intruders to make a difference. (Passive air filters sit and wait for something to come over and get cleaned!) Find a system that guarantees to eliminate all or most harmful airborne particles. This is the only way to keep from re-infecting clean surfaces with new contaminants immediately after cleaning.

“Fresh Air” by EcoQuest International uses a unique fresh air technology which will eliminate smoke and odors completely and greatly reduce surface contaminants on kitchen counters and door knobs. No more wipes that leave a toxic residue. “Fresh Air” uses Radiant Catalytic Ionization in normal mode which produces safe oxidizers and super oxide ions. This is intensified in “Away Mode”. The Away Mode increases the maximum output of activated oxygen in unoccupied areas. EcoQuest officials, along with the studies done by the University of Cincinnati and the University of Kansas, maintain that the unit will remove 99.99% of mold, viruses, avian flu and the Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus that is invading our schools, hospitals and child care centers. The unit actually cleans the air and surrounding surfaces when you are gone. It has a dual effect: the bad guys are gone and the air is re-oxygenated at the same time.

Interested persons should know that a three day free trial is available for this product.
