Joan of Arc And Women’s History Month

March 23rd, 2010

MaidOfHeaven.com celebrates Women’s History Month in March with free resources about Joan of Arc

Joan of Arc website MaidOfHeaven.com celebrates Women’s History Month with free resources. St. Joan was one of the greatest women to ever live and Women’s History Month is a wonderful opportunity to remember her and celebrate her contributions to the world.  Joan continues to be an inspiration and role-model to women today because of the outstanding qualities she exhibited during her brief life.  Famous 19th century Scottish author and historian Andrew Lang once described Joan as the “Flower of Chivalry” which is a title that probably best summarizes her character.

Women’s History Month was created thirty years ago to help people remember the great achievements and contributions that women have made throughout history.  While there have been many great women down through the ages who have made significant contributions to the world there is none who stands out in quite the same way as Joan of Arc.  Rising from total obscurity to lead her people to impossible victories over the most powerful army in the world at the time Joan achieved a fame that continues to amaze all who hear her story.

In a day and age when it seems that there are no true heroes anymore it is refreshing to remember Joan of Arc and again believe that heroes are possible.  And let Joan be a reminder to everyone during Women’s History Month about all that women can achieve and that women can ultimately be the greatest heroes of all.

Joan of Arc Website Celebrates its Millionth Page View

July 11th, 2009

Joan of Arc website MaidOfHeaven.com is celebrating a milestone achievement in receiving over one million page views since the website’s debut in 2007.

MaidOfHeaven.com was launched in 2007 to provide complete information about the legendary historical figure St. Joan of Arc.  Since that time the site has quickly become a favorite among Joan of Arc devotees as well as scores of people researching Joan of Arc online.  The site had over 52,000 page views this past May alone and has now exceeded one million page views since it was launched in the early 2007.

Asked why the website has become so popular so fast Ben D. Kennedy, author of Maid of Heaven the biography about Joan of Arc that inspired the creation of the website, explained; “Joan of Arc is one of the most famous people in history and yet there are only a couple of websites that contain more than just one page encyclopedia entries about her.  MaidOfHeaven.com filled a need for people wanting a comprehensive site with detailed information about Joan’s life and history.”

The website by comparative standards is huge with over 300 web pages that are the equivalent of thousands of pages in a normal book.  The site actually includes several full length books about Joan of Arc free to the public like Mark Twain’s famous biography Personal Recollections of Joan of Arc. The site is also attractive and easy to navigate with main headings of information like a Quick Facts page and a Quotes page that make it simple to research Joan of Arc’s history.

When asked it he thought the sites popularity would continue to grow Kennedy responded: “Absolutely, the site is just now starting to supplant the one page entries at the top of the Google ranking so as word spreads I think more people will come to know what a valuable resource MaidOfHeaven.com is for anyone wanting to learn all about Joan of Arc.”

100th Anniversary of Joan of Arc’s Beatification

April 3rd, 2009

This April will mark the 100th anniversary of Saint Joan of Arc’s Beatification by the Roman Catholic Church in 1909. The official pronouncement was issued on April 11, 1909, and a ceremony attended by thousands of people was held at the Vatican on April 18, 1909. A special page at MaidOfHeaven.com has been set up to celebrate that contains a picture of the ceremony, a translation of the official pronouncement of beatification and a copy of a newspaper article from April 19, 1909 describing the ceremony.

Why is Saint Joan of Arc still remembered today? Her life was one that contained great triumph as well as great tragedy and she has inspired people down through the ages with her example of bravery and self sacrifice. Sir Winston Churchill, the legendary leader of Britain in WWII, once wrote of her: “Joan was a being so uplifted from the ordinary run of mankind that she finds no equal in a thousand years.” Mark Twain, the great American writer, described her as “perhaps the only entirely unselfish person whose name has a place in profane history.”

In the official pronouncement by Pope Pius X that was issued on April 11, 1909, the Pope described Joan of Arc as “a witness to divine power, which has chosen what is weak in the world to confound what is strong.” This 100th anniversary in an excellent opportunity to again remember this amazing women and all that she accomplished in her life.
