November 9th, 2009

With nearly 40 tons of snow and 2 toboggan snow slides, Downtown Clearwater’s Miracle on Cleveland Street is back on December 4th with Carolers, SANTA and a special Christmas train to take kids over to the Christmas Village!

Clearwater, FL, November 9, 2009 – Who says it never snows in Florida?  The Clearwater Downtown Partnership figured out how to make it snow at their inaugural Christmas event called Miracle on Cleveland St. last December.  20 tons of snow graced Cleveland Street along with 2500 attendees – many of which were children who came out in full force to ride the toboggan snow slide and see SANTA.  This December 4th, there will be nearly 40 tons of snow, 2 giant toboggan slides and a play snow area for those infamous snow-ball fights!

HeartDance Band will be jazzing up those ol’ Christmas songs and the Christmas train will be available to give kids rides to the Christmas Village.  Carolers, Dickens characters and children galore will light up Cleveland Street with snow, snow, more snow and more!

  • Miracle on Cleveland St. is FREE
  • It starts snowing at 5pm and goes until 10pm
  • Beer and wine proceeds will benefit Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Pinellas County

Jose Valentino also performing at 4th Friday Clearwater in September

September 19th, 2009

Renowned jazz artist, José Valentino, is also performing in Downtown Clearwater’s Cleveland Street District at the 4th Friday’s September 25th Kick-off for the 30th Anniversary of Clearwater Jazz Holiday.

Clearwater, FL, September 14, 2009 – The producers of 4th Friday Clearwater recently announced that they put together even more star-studded performances for their September kick-off to the 30th Anniversary of Clearwater Jazz Holiday.  The renowned José Valentino will also be performing on September 25th in Downtown Clearwater’s Cleveland Street District.  Valentino, a Downbeat Magazine award-winning flutist with proven jazz and classical skills, has been described as a “flute on fire” with an already illustrious career at the age of 21, opening or performing side-by-side with local and international artists such as Aaron Neville, Chic Corea, Jim Walker…and the list goes on and on.  Most recently, he performed with Paquito D’Rivera at the prestigious Tanglewood Jazz Festival, sponsored by the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

Before reaching the age required to obtain a Florida driver’s permit, José Valentino Ruiz, aka-Joe Ruiz, was playing flute with passion and dexterity.  Born in Silver Spring, Maryland, he moved to Tampa, Florida at age 8.  Frequent trips with his family to Puerto Rico infused fervor in his soul for his Hispanic heritage and excitement for Latin rhythms.

“Overall I just want to bring people together with music….it’s something that all people of all ages seem to agree on and if I have made someone’s day better, I know I’m doing something right,” says José.

Valentino’s latest CD “ALL ABOUT YOU” is a special album that is reported to “have flavors for everyone” which is why the 4th Friday Clearwater event producers knew he’d be a perfect match for their 1500-plus party goers.

Clearwater, FL, August 31, 2009 – There are hundreds of nicknames, mottos and slogans for places all over the USA and soon Clearwater will have a new motto known far and wide titled “Eat My Wake.” Why?  Because Super Boat International and Brighthouse Networks are bringing some of the fastest and largest offshore power boats in the world to Clearwater from Friday, October 2nd through Sunday, October 4th for Clearwater’s 1st Annual Super Boat National Championship Festival.

Equipped with F-16 jet canopies and extreme speeds of up to 200 mph, these power boats will compete in front of a predicted 40,000-plus spectators and fans coming from all over Florida and other parts of the nation.  Plenty of parking will be available in downtown Clearwater with rides to and from the beach via the Jolly Trolley.

Miss Geico and Seminole Hard Rock Casino are some of the reported teams to be competing in the festival.   These mad machines will be manned by a partnership of superb drivers controlling the boats steering and throttlemen responsible for operating up to four engines capable of producing more than 6,000 horsepower, creating a high-energy spectacular show tackling the choppy Gulf waters at mind blowing speeds.

The jammed-packed festival will be free for the entire family with:

  • Parties at Coachman Park and Pier 60 all weekend;
  • Loads of food and libations;
  • Ability to see the boats at dry dock at Coachman Park and meet some of the drivers;

About Clearwater’s 1st Annual Super Boat National Championship Festival:

When Super Boat International (SBI) founder and 30-year veteran, John Carbonell, wanted to produce Clearwater’s 1st Annual Super Boat National Championship Festival two local area businessmen made it happen: Restaurateur Frank Chivas and Former Mayor of Clearwater Brian Aungst Sr.

Carbonell has been producing the World Championship Races in Key West every year for 3 decades as well as the races in Sarasota held every 4th of July.  Now Clearwater, the next “new great location” will have something Key West doesn’t have…the absence of cruise ships obstructing the race sight lines.  “It’s a great time of year to support the tourism industry,” says Aungst. “[SBI] needed another spot and Clearwater Beach is one of the prettiest beaches in the world.”

Clearwater’s 1st Annual Super Boat National Championship Festival will be produced by Super Boat International, presented by Brighthouse Networks and sponsored by Bud Light Lime and the Clearwater Regional Chamber of Commerce.
