54% of young people only want to be famous

February 17th, 2010

New research by one of the UK’s leading experience day websites has found that 54% of 16 year olds only want to be famous when they are older, rather than opting for a more traditional career.

A new study by leading experience day website www.intotheblue.co.uk of 1,032 sixteen year olds has found that more than half of the respondents want to be famous when they are older, instead of branching into other professions. The research came after the site noticed an increase in the number of people searching for and buying the Superstar Singer experience days and Dance Lessons.

When asked ‘what would you like to be when you are older?’ over half said famous, compared to just 9% of the young people who wanted a legal career. 13% wanted a job in the media and 15% said they would like a career in medicine, such as nursing or becoming a GP.

Despite a large proportion of the young people wanting a lifestyle to match the rich and famous, 68% said they wouldn’t know how to go about becoming a celebrity. 21% said they would try to become nationally recognised through a reality TV show such as X Factor or Britain’s Got Talent, which is due to start on ITV soon.

Of the 54% who wanted to be a celebrity in the future, only 19% felt they had enough talent to make them worthy of fame.

Intotheblue.co.uk wanted to look into which celebrities acted as role models to the 54% who said they wanted to be famous. The stars that most respondents aspired to be like were;

1. Kate Moss

2. Wayne Rooney

3. Lady Gaga

4. Nicola T

5. Richard Branson

6. Davina McCall

7. Simon Cowell

8. Paris Hilton

9. Hugh Grant

10. Alex Reid

Rob Holmes, e-commerce and Marketing Manager at Intotheblue.co.uk, said;

“Our Superstar Singer experience days allow people to have some valuable studio time in which they can record their own track and a large increase in the popularity of such days prompted us to look into young people’s attitudes towards fame. We were quite surprised by the percentage of respondents who wanted to be famous rather than have a regular career and more so at some of the role models who came up.

He continued, “The fact that many of the young people don’t know how to go about becoming famous is a bit worrying and, although reality shows are sometimes a doorway to fame, another way is to develop talents through singing and dance lessons such as this. The Superstar Singer experience could be a good way for young people to start out.”

Bowie-Knives Announces Website Launch

December 2nd, 2009

Dave Sabot, President of CheapHumidors.com, announced the launch of a new website in his online empire. The new website, Bowie-Knives.com, was officially launched on Monday, November 8, 2009 and is the self-proclaimed, exclusive, bowie knives only website on the internet.

The website features bowie knives from some of the top manufacturers including Cold Steel, SOG, Boker USA, CASE Cutlery, Ka-bar, Ontario Knife Co. and United Cutlery. Additionally, the site includes large and small steel blade and Grivory (the latest in fiberglass reinforced plastic) blade knives as well as rubber training knives.

Bowie-Knives.com will also feature a special section with bowie hunting knife information that will include tips on purchasing, caring for and sharpening bowie knives. Visitors to the site will find new information posted weekly.

As a special offer as part of the new site launch, Mr. Sabot is offering a ten percent off coupon code that can be found on the Bowie-Knives.com Twitter, Facebook and MySpace pages. In addition to the grand opening promotion, the site will offer free shipping and handling to all location within the continental United States.

An avid hunter, Mr. Sabot is most excited to get involved with people interested in such activities as camping, hiking, fishing and hunting. “It’s less about offering the products and more about networking with those interested in the great outdoors.” Dave went on to say, “I didn’t want to disperse my efforts too thin and chose to start with providing the best experience to customers searching for a specific product.” When asked about the possibility of other specific hunting accessory websites, Dave explained, “At this point it’s too early to tell, but  I wouldn’t consider it outside of the realm of possibility.”

David Sabot opened his first website, Cheaphumidors.com, back in June 1997, hosting it on a free site with nothing more than a picture of three humidors, a price and an address to send checks to. Since then, he has grown his site in to one of the most successful cigar-related destinations online.

“In May of 1997, on Mother’s Day, I was visiting my brother in New Jersey. It was a beautiful day and we sat outside on the patio. He took out some fine Cuban cigars and we started to smoke and BBQ. When I was leaving to go home he threw a few cigars at me and told me to enjoy them.”

“I really didn’t know too much about cigars or how to store them, so I turned to the Internet. What I found out was that you needed a thing called a humidor to properly store cigars. So I started shopping for them. I went to my local stores, consignment shops, etc. Their prices were un-real. They wanted $200-$300 for a box to store cigars. I almost fainted. I did some research and it turned out there were other people like me. Guys who wanted to store some cigars but didn’t want to spend a fortune doing it. Well it doesn’t take much to see there was a market here that was pretty much unfilled.”

“I found a company that would supply me with humidors and I could order only a few at a time for $45 apiece. I bought one as a sample and to store my own cigars in and decided to take a picture and throw it on a free-hosted Web site. Much to my delight I started to receive orders and inquires for the product and as they say, the rest is history.”

In addition to his bowie knives and humidors websites, Dave also recently opened a cigar lighters website, BuyLighters.com, in early 2009.

Six-Steps to Celebrate Grandparents Day and Leave a Lasting Impression for the Grandkids

August 31st, 2009

Marian McQuade, (1917-2008) the founder of Grandparents Day hoped to persuade grandchildren to tap the wisdom and heritage their grandparents could provide. Something that America’s 70 million grandparents, and their families, can easily achieve thanks to the valuable advice offered by award-winning grief expert and author, Gemini Adams, in her latest book, Your Legacy of Love: Realize the Gift in Goodbye.

In this inspirational guide, she suggests we capture our Emotional Assets: our memories, voice, values, image, stories, and affections, using various media to create a timeless memento that grandchildren will treasure forever. Grandparents can find new meaning to this national holiday, which takes place on September 13, 2009, by following the six-steps that Adams says, “are essential for those looking to share their worldly wisdom or leave a lasting and loving impression.”

1.    Good Guidance – Pass on valuable life instructions and lessons, by capturing your wisdom in a Grandpa or Grandma Guide, to help children and grandchildren make “better”  life choices.

2.   Future Surprises – Avoid the heartbreak on special celebrations, such as 21st birthdays, weddings, graduations or bar mitzvahs, by preparing meaningful gifts to be delivered on your behalf. Leave them with a trusted loved one.

3.    Life Story – Capture your voice, memories, voice, image, and share family values, by writing your own life story, or recording it on video,  so that your family will appreciate the value of the past, and always remain connected to you.

4.    Musical Memories – Create a CD of your favorite music, including the first song played on your wedding night, or one from a special family occasion, to help your loved ones recall the memories of the great times they spent with you.

5.    Define Your Wishes – Plan ahead for the end-of-life, so you can eradicate last minute stress, guaranteeing you and your family get the service you deserve.

6.    Life Celebrations – Make advance plans to ensure the service reflects the real you, reduces the burden for your surviving family and ensure they have a more positive experience at your final farewell party.
Your Legacy of Love: Realize the Gift in Goodbye, by Gemini Adams, (5.5 x 8.5, Softcover, ISBN: 978-0615193755, $14.99 US/$16.99 CAN) is available at all major bookstores, the authors site www.realizethegift.com and Amazon.com or direct from Live Consciously Publishing.
