Brand Loyalty Remains Strong Amongst Mobile Users

April 30th, 2010

26% of mobile phone users stick with the same network when it’s time to upgrade handsets, whilst a third always opt for a handset by the same manufacturer, new research into brand loyalty by the UK’s leading mobile phone comparison website has found.

A new study by www.rightmobilephone.co.uk has looked into brand loyalty amongst 1,784 mobile phone users and has discovered that 32% of the respondents always go for handsets by the same manufacturer, whilst more than 1 in 4 stay with the same network.

The poll was commissioned after the site noticed a trend of users searching for handsets by the same manufacturers and deals with the same service providers. Of those that claimed to always stay with the same network, 41% said it was so they didn’t have to change their phone number – despite the fact that you can switch provider yet still retain your number, as long as you ask your previous service provider for the relevant PUK code.

23% said it was down to ‘good signal’ in their area and 11% said they didn’t chop and change their service provider because they were ‘too used to it’. 4% admitted it was out of laziness.

When it came to loyalty to mobile manufacturers, 51% said they always went for handsets by the same brand because they were familiar with the user interface and knew how to use the phone well. http://www.rightmobilephone.co.uk asked the respondents that were loyal to their brands which manufacturer and network they went with.

Most respondents who always opt for the same make of handset had a Nokia mobile, whilst Vodafone was the network people were most loyal to.

The people that said they regularly changed their network provider were asked to give reasons why. 39% said they did so to try and find a service provider that gave them good signal where they lived. 11% said it was to find a better PAYG or contract deal.

Of those not loyal to mobile manufacturers, 59% said the reason they went for different brands was down to ‘boredom’ with their previous manufacturer. 12% said it was important to them to keep up with the latest trends and a further 14% said they were led by whichever handset offered the best features and technology.

Neil McHugh, co-founder of www.rightmobilephone.co.uk, said;

“We can tell from search trends on the site that some users only look for handsets by the same manufacturer and others only look for contract deals by a particular service provider, so were keen to get people’s opinions on brand loyalty.

“It’s clear from the research that habit has a lot to do with consumers remaining with the same manufacturers or network; once you get used to how a certain brand of phone works, such as the layout of the menu or the different functions the handset offers, it’s quite common not to want to get a new handset and learn how it works all over again. With the network, good signal is obviously a strong selling point that keeps customers loyal.”

36% of youths won’t vote in the general election – 3 in 4 would if they could vote by text

February 20th, 2010

A new national study of young people in the UK by the leading mobile phone price comparison website has revealed attitudes towards the general election and shows a large number would be more likely to vote if they could do so using text messaging or social media.

The UK’s leading mobile phone price comparison website www.rightmobilephone.co.uk has conducted research of 1,082 young people aged 18-25 and found that 36% of the respondents aren’t planning to vote in the general election this year, but 3 in 4 of those said they would if they could do so via text message or social media.

When asked, ‘are you planning to vote in the general election this year?’ more than a third said they wouldn’t. 42% claimed they didn’t really understand politics enough to vote, whilst 51% said they couldn’t be bothered to take the time to go to the polling stations. The remaining 7% said they thought their vote wouldn’t make a difference, therefore deeming it unnecessary.

Of those who were planning to opt out of the general election vote this year, 76% said they would be more likely to take part if they could place their vote via text or social media, such as a Facebook page or on Twitter.

Two thirds of the respondents, 66%, said that they had placed votes on a reality TV show in the past using their mobile, which was a higher number than the percentage who said they would be voting for the general election this year. Of those who would vote if they could do so by text or through social media, 19% weren’t concerned about privacy issues and other people finding out who they had voted for.

24% said there could be issues with people voting more than once, but this was a concern that didn’t stop 89% of the total respondents saying they thought voting via text would be possible after the next General Election.

Neil McHugh, co-founder of rightmobilephone.co.uk, said;

“As our results prove social media and mobile phones could be a very powerful way for political parties to interact and communicate with this generation. Twitter, Facebook and YouTube weren’t as established in previous elections, but now provide a far reaching platform for any political party who are savvy enough to include them in their election strategy. As for voting via your mobile phone, the concept is great but I think we are a few years away yet. Obviously privacy and security issues would be a concern along with the margin for error, but hopefully in the future it’s something that can be overcome and get more of the population making a difference.”

Alberto Nardelli, founder of Tweetminster.co.uk, a service which aims to make politics more transparent by giving users access to the Twitter posts from MPs and politicians, said;

“In the US, mobile campaigning played a central role in the past election, especially in terms of engaging and mobilising first time voters. It’s surprising than in the UK none of the parties place mobile at the core of their campaigns, more importantly in a context where young voters and first-time voters can be decisive, it will be interesting to see which party first experiments with mobile”.

There’s now a way to get rewarded for getting a mobile phone

February 8th, 2010

A new website called www.mobilephonetown.co.uk has launched today. Mike Gray, Paul Leonard and Malcolm Tapp were inspired to start the business when they realised how much people’s attitudes to purchasing a mobile have changed over the years. To most, a mobile is less of luxury these days and more of a necessity; after all three quarters of the UK now own one. In effect, a mobile phone has become as much an accepted living expense as gas, electricity and water. And it’s this change in public perception that partly inspired the creation of www.mobilephonetown.co.uk

The reason for someone to buy their new pay monthly mobile on the website is simple and compelling: if incurring the expense of a phone contract is a life’s essential a person cannot do without; why not get something extra for the money for free. Mike Gray, one of MobilePhoneTown founders, explained:

“The something extra we can offer customers is free high quality gifts with their pay monthly mobile phones. The more you spend on your contract, the more generous we are with the gifts.”

Paul Leonard, another of MobilePhoneTown’s founders added:

“Getting a gift reward is simple: all you have to do is be accepted for a pay monthly contract and then successfully pay your first month’s bill. There are no hidden catches.”

From popular mobiles such as the sleek Nokia 2330 to ultra-modern touch-screen phones such as the Nokia 5800, there’s a variety of handsets to suit all tastes and needs. Contract prices range from £20 to £50 a month and are available across Orange, T-Mobile and Vodafone networks.

Gifts vary from simple cashback deals, right up to widescreen TVs, Xbox 360s, spa days and weekend breaks. All have one thing in common: their quality ensures a customer gets something extra of real value when they shop with MobilePhoneTown.

With over 69 years’ combined experience in the mobile telecommunications business, Malcolm Tapp, one of MobilePhoneTown’s founders, is clear how they can be so generous to their customers:

“We are able to negotiate exclusive rates with the major mobile networks and manufacturers. This enables us to pass on these benefits to our customers in the shape of free gifts.”

The free gifts mean some customers are able to save the money they’d have to layout upfront on big purchases such as a TVs, holidays or Sat Navs. They can also save themselves the expensive interest they’d have to pay if they bought these items via a credit card or hire purchase scheme.

The website is simplicity itself to use. Visitors can search by handset model or make, line rental amount, network or gift. There’s also a large gallery of phones to browse through. Each features big easy-to-view pictures of the handsets plus easy-to-understand information about each deal’s mins, texts, network, tariff, contract length and free gift.

Find out just how easy the website is to use and browse the high quality gifts for yourself at www.mobilephonetown.co.uk

InfoCom says mobile music still in its infancy

June 8th, 2009

Stuttgart (Germany) — According to InfoCom most recent study, mobile music downloads are currently bringing very few revenues to mobile operators and service providers. Usage-based pricing still prevailed with mobile music downloads priced per song from €0.30 to €3.00 per song, although most titles are available for €1.15. The InfoCom analyst leading the research said: „There are indeed still some major drawbacks to overcome, in particular the persistence of the walled garden approach of most mobile operators — although with some exceptions — and major music labels. Besides, customers have access — legally or illegally — to music “for free” on the Internet or from friends as side-loads”.

On the other hand, increasing competition from mobile phone manufacturers and technological development are driving service innovation. Latest developments see most current phone models with larger memory capacity and generally embedded compatible music players, which can now compete with dedicated MP3 players. Moreover, mobile music stores offer dedicated software to store, organise, share and display the music, providing thus an enhanced user experience. On the side of the service, operators start to launch new business models with billing based on song bundles (download a given number of songs) or unlimited tracks (flat rate) for a fixed weekly or monthly fee. And music labels launched first trials of (Digital Right Management) DRM-free content for online music services, to fight piracy. InfoCom again commented” In the mobile market, major labels are still a bit reluctant to give up DRM; and indeed, DRM-free content offers are still an exception”.

All in all, the mobile music offerings are indeed evolving to propose a richer user experience. As a matter of fact, mobile operators — the dominators of the mobile music delivery chain — search for new forms of partnerships with music labels, with service providers as well as with manufacturers as to provide more appealing mobile music services, which bring more stable revenues and also bind the user to the carrier.

Cell Phone Compatibility: Wholesaler Chinavasion Offers GSM Frequency Advice

November 25th, 2008

People who sell unlocked phones on eBay know how much of a headache trying to get the cellphone with the right GSM band to the right country can be.

Wholesale dropship company Chinavasion is offering some help with a GSM world map and GSM frequency advice.

Experts say global demand for cell phones is changing with demand for mobile phones in developing countries like India, China and Brazil rapidly overtaking demand in North America and Europe.

For the first four months of this year alone world cellular phone sales jumped 13.6% on what they were in a similar period in 2007 according to research body Gartner Group.

The Gartner Group said a big part of that growth can be attributed to developing markets with Asian sales jumping by 26.6% and Latin America sales increasing by 28.4%.

This is great for anyone selling GSM phones online it does raise major questions of cellphone compatibility as online retailers deal with more GSM frequencies then they ever have before.

There are three basic GSM frequencies, 850MHz, 900MHz, 1800MHz and 1900MHz.

Different carriers in different countries use different combinations of frequencies.

This makes it difficult to roam, buy unlocked cell phones and sell unlocked phones.

Wholesale dropship company, Chinavasion, has come to the rescue of everybody confused about cell phone compatibility.

They have answered the question ‘what is GSM’. They have also put together a GSM frequency guide, a GSM world map to show people where each GSM band works and a GSM frequency chart to show people which GSM phone will work where.

According to Chinavasion’s PR manager, Rose Li, the company put together these GSM frequency resources to help e-commerce operators improve customer service.

“We feel it is our job to make the experience of buying and selling a GSM phone online as easy, safe and pleasurable as possible,” said Rose Li.

According to Chinavasion’s Rose Li the whole reason for the development of the GSM standard was to open up the wireless networks to the people of the world.

“European industry leaders developed the GSM standard to put power back in the hands of the consumers,” according to Rose Li.” consumers need to keep that power.”

According to Rose Li buying unlocked cell phones and unlocked GSM phones were excellent ways to retain control and get the most out of global roaming.

“Unlocked GSM cell phones, particularly international phones are the only options for people traveling all over the world,” according to Rose Li. “Only with these unlocked cellular phones can the user change providers by just switching GSM SIM cards.”

Rose Li is the PR Manger for Chinavasion, China’s premier wholesale dropship company for unlocked cell phones and Western quality wholesale electronics. Would you like to learn more about unlocked phones? Or see what GSM band information Chinavasion can provide?
