Family Ski Holidays Should Still Be Holidays

February 11th, 2010

Family Ski HolidaysMany parents think that a family ski holiday can be more work than play. Luxury tour operator Scott Dunn proves that this doesn’t have to be the case.

Any holiday, even one as active as a ski holiday, should be relaxing, fun and, all in all, provide a much-needed break from life’s everyday trials. But a family ski holiday can often leave you feeling exhausted before you’ve even clicked into your bindings.

Scott Dunn provides a childcare service that enables parents to ski with freedom, whilst young ones benefit from a level of childcare and creativity that ensures they too enjoy an amazing ski holiday in the mountains.

“We know that whilst parents want to feel that they’re having a proper break and getting some great skiing in, they’ll only be truly content if they know their kids are having a brilliant time too”, says Managing Director, Andrew Dunn. “Ultimately, it’s all about getting the childcare right – that’s what defines whether a family ski holiday is a pleasure or a chore.”

Available to all Scott Dunn ski chalets and ski hotel guests in Courchevel 1850, Val d’Isere, Zermatt and St Anton, the private nanny service operates from 9am to 5pm, six days a week.

Almost all nannies are recruited from the UK for their mature but fun approach to childcare, in addition to their CACHE Level 3 qualification. They must also undergo pre-season Scott Dunn childcare training, which includes a comprehensive and certified first aid course.

In addition to private nannies, Scott Dunn runs a children’s club in the Val d’Isere ski resort for those aged four months to 13 years. The club has a large play area, chill out room with wide screen TV and Xbox 360, sleep room, children’s toilet area, nappy change area, kitchen/dining area and separate ski room.

For non-skiing junior guests, toys and books are in abundance in the chalet and two creative activities take place each day; from ice-skating and tobogganing, to mask-making and face-painting. Children attending ski school are taken to their lessons by the Scott Dunn driver service. Come lunchtime, nannies provide a nutritious meal so that parents’ ski time is uninterrupted.

It’s the convenience that attracts many: the thought of enjoying a family breakfast (provided by an experienced Scott Dunn chef), before the children are collected by the nanny and dropped back at 5pm, leaving parents to revel in the freedom of a day to themselves on the mountain. But just as importantly, it’s knowing that this is a family ski holidays the kids will love just as much as the grown-ups.

Scott Dunn Supporting ED DRAKE’S 2010 Winter Olympic Journey

November 7th, 2009

The ski holiday experts at Scott Dunn are leading a campaign to support Britain’s Number One male Alpine Skier Ed Drake in his quest to win gold at the forthcoming Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games (Feb 2010).

Aged just 23, Ed is a serious contender for a British medal at the Games, being the only male British Alpine Skier to pre-qualify for Vancouver 2010. But, like all young Olympians, Ed needs backing to get him to the Games.

Having sponsored Ed since 2007, Scott Dunn is providing this vital assistance to help raise funds for Ed’s training programme in preparation for Vancouver 2010. The support, in addition to his sponsorship, includes donating a luxury Scott Dunn ski holiday, with all the proceeds from its raffle going straight into Ed’s training fund pot.

Scott Dunn is also inviting Guests to lend a hand, with an optional £20 donation added to each ski booking for the 2009/10 season (up until 25 Oct 2009 they will receive a raffle ticket in return, and chance to win the holiday). Scott Dunn hopes its support, and the support of its guests, can help Ed strive for gold.

How to contribute to Ed’s Olympic quest? To back Ed, and be in with a chance of winning the Scott Dunn holiday, simply visit www.scottdunn.com/eddrake for details on purchasing a raffle ticket online. Tickets cost £20. Maximum 1000 tickets.

Tickets will also be on sale at the Metro Ski & Snowboard Show (21-25 October 2009, London Olympia), where the winning ticket will be drawn on The Snow Centre stand on 25 October. Scott Dunn hopes to raise £20,000 for Ed’s fund from the sale of the tickets.

First prize, with a value of more than £3,100, is a one-week stay for two adults in Lodge Adler, Scott Dunn’s Premier Chalet in St Anton, Austria, with British Airways flights and transfers. The winner will enjoy five course dinners, a la carte breakfasts, afternoon tea, Laurent-Perrier Champagne, renowned Scott Dunn hospitality and all the ultra-luxurious Scott Dunn touches*.

Scott Dunn will also be hosting an exclusive fundraising event at The Snow Centre on 7th October, raising more money for Ed’s fund, and supported by Ed’s sponsors and supporters**.

Ed says, “The support that Scott Dunn and their partners are giving me is invaluable. I want to be an Olympian and ultimately my main goal is to win. You’ve got to shoot high. I’ve been dreaming of taking part since I started racing, but it wouldn’t be possible without backing. When it comes to ski racing, I love the speed and the adrenalin rush of being at my absolute limit – the whole occasion is going to be amazing and I’m going to do my best for all my supporters”.
