Town & country foods joins world orphans in building orphan homes in Africa

April 24th, 2009

Town & Country Foods Inc. has joined forces with World Orphans to help address the needs of millions of orphans; by helping to build five orphan homes in Uganda and Liberia. To date donations of over $100,000 from Town & Country Foods, with the participation of our customers, has opened the door for one of the most unique partnerships in history to address this unprecedented problem. American’s simply changing where they buy their groceries is changing the destinies of children around the world.

The problem: the number of children in the world that have lost their mother or father, are parentless, or have been abandoned…now exceeds 143 million. This absolutely staggering number is almost equivalent to one-half of the total population of the Untied States. In the past hour;

  • 1,625 children were forced to live on the streets by the death or abuse of an adult
  • 1,667 children under the age of five died from malnutrition and vaccine-preventable diseases
  • 115 children became prostitutes
  • 66 children under age 15 were infected with HIV
  • 257 children were orphaned because of HIV/AIDS

Town & Country Food is committed to helping with this massive problem with a simple idea, 81% of American’s would change where they purchase a product if quality and price was the same, or better, and if they could help someone by doing so. Cone/Roper Corporate Citizenship Study, 2001.
