Work Out How To Do Less

November 26th, 2009

Happy Thanksgiving to you.

Holidays are an opportunity to take time out with our families, pause and refresh ourselves.

Many people use this time as a chance to restore their energy levels before plunging back into the same routines as before. This time, I would suggest doing something more radical. Try to work out how you can do less, not more.

I have been learning a little about the Theory of Constraints from Dr Lisa Lang. You can download a report from her on how to determine the highest and best use of your time. She argues that you are likely to be the constraint in your business and she recommends that you concentrate on only two tasks at a time, providing a technique for working out which these tasks should be. So how about spending Thanksgiving working out a way to do less!

In order to change how we work, we probably need to think about ourselves in a different way. We are taught from our earliest days to try to remedy our shortcomings. But this may not be the best approach for you. Perhaps you should aim to fly at what you are best at and use others to help you out with your weaknesses? Otherwise, you wear yourself out trying to do everything and end up excelling at nothing.
